Help the Homeless in Haiti

Tax deductible
Please help us fund the construction of a homeless shelter for families and children in northern Port au Prince, Haiti

Two nurses -- veterans of medical work in Haiti -- have donated the funds to purchase a piece of land in northern Port au Prince. They have partnered with Haitian community leaders whose dream is to provide emergency and transitional housing to those in desperate need. This vision includes creating a community center to help address some of the problems facing Haitians today; a community garden to help feed the residents in a country where nearly everyone is frequently hungry; and a micro lending program to help families start their own businesses.

Haiti, the first post-colonial all black led nation in the world, is also the poorest country in the Western hemisphere with more than 1.5 million people left homeless after the earthquake of 2010. An already devastating housing shortage became much worse after Hurricane Matthew  displaced another 175,000 people in October of last year. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians remain homeless. Yet there is not a single homeless shelter in the city of Port au Prince. While some organizations provide some temporary housing, often people are forced to move far from their communities, live with minimal services, a lack of safety and clean water, and without the means to improve their situation.

Please help us fund the first homeless shelter in northern Port au Prince to enable Haitian families who are homeless to find safety and shelter within their own community as well as the means to move toward greater self-sufficiency.
