We Americans have a rapidly shrinking window of opportunity to support Afghan allies who bravely stood with our soldiers, aid workers, and diplomats for more than two decades. Thousands of these loyal friends of America have fled their homes in fear of persecution or retaliation from the Taliban regime and are scattered abroad, hopeful of moving on to safety. They have been issued “Special Immigrant Visas” (SIV’s) which give them legal entry into the US with the gift of permanent residency immediately upon their arrival. However, they first must secure their own transportation to the U.S. as well as an approved sponsor. We are asking you to consider working with us to honor their service by helping them reach safety and rebuild their lives in the United States.
Here’s what we’re aiming to do:
Provide a 90-day period of welcoming care
For the first three months, our Sponsor Circle will walk alongside our newcomers, helping them set up for stability: providing furnished housing, stocking essentials, enrolling in English classes, securing jobs or school enrollment, arranging transportation, and much more. Our CIS refugee services conveniently mirror the Sponsor Circle Program’s required model of providing core resettlement services during the most critical period after arrival.
Facilitate long-term stability and belonging
Beyond the mandatory short-term resettlement help, our CIS Team will support our families for the long haul, with continued assistance in language acquisition, job readiness and retention, navigating confusing social services, and ongoing community connections. This isn’t just a series of handouts — it’s building bridges toward self-sufficiency.
Provide emotional, medical, and cultural support.
Sponsor Circles don’t just bring material help. We focus on building dependable relationships: helping newcomers understand and adjust to how things work in our fast-paced culture and connecting them to sources of medical care or psychological support.
Raise money for essential needs
According to Sponsor Circle Program guidelines, we must raise at least $1,000 per newcomer to ensure basic costs are covered (rent, food, utilities, furnishings, etc.) Our donor/partners can be reassured that CIS will be able to provide careful financial oversight to make sure these Sponsor Circle funds go exactly where they’re needed most — in a transparent, accountable way.
Build community momentum.
This GoFundMe is about more than money. It’s an invitation: to neighbors, churches, businesses, and friends to join in a collective act of welcome. As donors invest in this with us, it accelerates our capacity to do more and to do it well, while they find fresh joy and meaning through partnership in compassionate action.
Why Now Is the Time
There is urgent need: many refugees who are already in the U.S. don’t have enough agency or community support, and grassroots sponsorship can fill critical gaps.
The Sponsor Circle Program (through the Community Sponsorship Hub) exists precisely for this kind of community-led resettlement.
Our Compassion Immigration Services’ existing structure means we can move efficiently, responsibly, and with the accountability that donors deserve.
Your Impact — What Your Donation Does
$50 can stock a pantry with staples for a few weeks
$200 helps furnish a newcomer’s bedroom or living space
$500+ goes toward rent, utilities, & transportation
Larger gifts help provide a safety net, enabling us to support more people — or to stretch further in providing ESL classes, employment prep, or emotional support.
In Short
By donating, you're not just giving money — you're joining a caring community. You're helping to build a Sponsor Circle rooted in compassion, responsibility, and mutual respect. You're helping someone find their way “home” — not just a place to live but “belonging.”
