Help Preserve Renner's Baseball Heritage

I am writing to you today to request your support for the historic Renner

Baseball Field, also known as the "Baseball Capitol Of South Dakota".

Built in 1921, Renner Ball Park has been a cornerstone of our

community, hosting games that were once played on local farms. In

2006, the field was rightfully placed on the National Register of Historic

Places for its significant contributions to South Dakota baseball. As one

of the oldest still-functioning baseball fields in the United States, it

holds a special place in our state's sporting heritage. The Renner

Monarchs first clinched the state championship here in 1939 and have

since brought the title back to Renner 23 times, most recently in 2024.

In addition to the Monarchs success, Post 307 has brought back the

Legion state title 3 out of the last 6 years! Averaging 140-150 games

per season and hosting 5 teams from April through September, the field

is a hub of activity and community pride. Moreover, a new concession

stand and bathroom project will be functional for the upcoming 2025

season.

To enhance the playing environment, the Renner Baseball Field, home

of the Renner Monarchs and Post 307, requires significant upgrades.

Currently, seven of the field's 30 lights are out, and due to their age,

replacement bulbs are no longer available. Given the high volume of

games played each season, Post 307 and the Renner Monarchs are

collaborating to raise funds to improve this historic ballpark.

thrill of baseball in Renner.
