There is a family that I support Liberia. Ben, Victoria, Robert, and Alex all live in a small neighborhood in Paynesville. Ben has an IT degree, but can't get a job because the economy has collapsed in Liberia.

Ben's community is trying to survive by their own means by creating a community garden. They just need a big enough plot of land to grow their own food. About a dozen families live in this poor neighborhood and they are all very eager for a chance to plant, harvest, and share in this community garden.

What is Needed?

Because of the seasonal flooding, the vegetable garden area will need to be in a raised bed. This will require some sort of frame of stone or wood. We will also need hoes, rakes, irrigation systems and seeds.

The rice portion of the garden can be dug out to keep it wet for growing rice. The soil removed from that space will help raise the vegetable garden.

We hope you can help us with a couple of dollars or whatever you can give. We already raised $500 and built a community well that helped people within a 10-mile radius.

In Paynesville, Liberia, it rains about 6 months of the year and floods up to 3 feet deep for months. The rest of the year is very dry.

BUT...this weather cycle is perfect for a plot that has a rice paddy on one side and a vegetable and bean garden on the other side.

We need a plot that is about an acre to really sustain all of this community. But we will start small and only buy the land that we can acquire with the money raised here.

Please help me help them to help themselves.
