My name is Monique S. Dietvorst. I am the founder of the Canadian Child Protection from Alienation Foundation and a graduate student in the Master’s Program in Parental Alienation Studies.

For years, I have been working to protect children from relational harm during high-conflict separations. My mission is to ensure that Canadian family law prioritizes the safety and well-being of children, grounded in evidence and clinical research.

Why Toronto? A Critical Moment for Our Children

In March 2026, I submitted a formal brief to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights. My brief outlines a practical, evidence-based, three-tier framework for addressing parental alienation in the Divorce Act.

This framework is designed to stop the harm at its source:

Prevention: Through Equal Shared Parenting presumptions to prevent alienation from taking root.

Enforcement: Through a National Access Program to ensure court orders are followed.

Treatment: Through specialized Family Systems Therapy for severe cases to heal damaged relationships.

The Urgency of This Fight

Right now, Bill C-223 is making its way through Parliament. This bill threatens to remove the concept of parental alienation from the Divorce Act entirely, which would harm children who are victims of this form of psychological abuse.

My research provides a clear, moderate, and child-centered alternative that addresses parental alienation without harming survivors of family violence. I must be in Toronto to present this solution to the experts and advocates who can influence the future of this legislation.
