My name is Lady, and I’m raising funds for my best friend and chosen family, Coco. After spending 25 years in prison—most of it in solitary confinement—Coco made the courageous decision to help dismantle a violent prison gang from the inside. This choice cost him everything: his safety, his freedom, and his old identity. But it also gave him a second chance at life. In solitary, Coco discovered painting. Art became his lifeline, helping him find peace and a new sense of purpose. Since his release, he’s created an inclusivity mural for an elementary school, gifted paintings to incredible Black teachers in the district for MLK Day, and taught others to paint, always pouring healing and hope into his work. Now, Coco lives with our family, helping raise our daughter Rylee and sharing his gifts with us every day.
Coco’s story has already impacted hundreds of thousands of people through his recent Soft White Underbelly video, where he spoke out for the first time. His next chapter is about freedom and impact. We’re raising funds to help him buy a safe, used RV so he can have his own space to live and work while still having our house as his home base. This will allow us to travel together as a family, and for Coco to tattoo, share his story, and teach art at events, schools, and recovery programs across the country. With your support, Coco will participate in a graffiti show at NFT NYC and paint murals in cities across the country, using his art—bold, bright, and full of life—to inspire others and bring hope to communities everywhere. He hopes to show that change is possible, no matter how hopeless things may seem. With your support, he can reach even more people, offering hope and proof that transformation is real.
Our family is large, with four kids, some with special needs, and we live paycheck to paycheck. Coco didn’t get a fair start in life and has nothing saved.
