Carlos, a father of 3, was detained without warning and held without food for four days in February of 2026. He was deported to Guatemala, separated from the family he had lived with in the United States for 10 years.

But Carlos couldn’t bear the separation. In May 2026, he made the difficult journey back to the U.S. to reunite with his children and his wife, Rosa. The family rejoiced — their father was home, and their lives finally felt whole again.

But on July 31, everything shattered again.

What Happened on July 31
Carlos was on his way to work in construction early that morning when ICE agents suddenly surrounded the vehicle. Carlos and his two brothers were taken into custody on the spot.

For about a week, they were moved between multiple detention centers, unable to contact their family, unable to defend themselves. Then, without due process or warning, Carlos was sent back to Guatemala for the second time.

His children watched their father disappear from their lives again — this time with even deeper fear and trauma.

A Family in Deep Pain
Carlos’s deportation has devastated his three children:

A 16‑year‑old son, trying to stay strong but overwhelmed by fear

An 11‑year‑old daughter, who cries for her father and struggles with anxiety

A 6‑year‑old son, who said the heartbreaking words: “Let ICE take me too so I can be with my dad.”

The children are terrified that their mother, Rosa, will also be abducted and deported. They live every day with fear, uncertainty, and the trauma of losing their father twice.

This is not a normal childhood. This is survival.

A Mother Trying to Hold the Family Together
Sra. Rosa is now raising three children alone, trying to keep them safe, fed, and emotionally supported while navigating the terror of ICE enforcement in her community.

On top of losing Carlos’s income, she is carrying a $4,000 debt owed to a cousin — a debt Carlos had planned to repay. Now, with no income and three traumatized children to care for, Rosa is terrified she will fall further behind and be unable to pay it back. This financial pressure adds another layer of fear and instability to an already overwhelming crisis.

She is doing everything she can — but she cannot do this alone.
