On October 7, 2025, my uncle Joel Rivera Reyes was separated from his son Brian Rivera and his partner Mitzi Jacob by I.C.E agents early in the morning. The suddenness of this event has left our family devastated, especially Brian, who witnessed his father being taken away right in front of him. After years apart, Brian had only recently begun to reconnect with Joel, making this loss even more painful. Mitzi, Joel’s partner, is also struggling deeply, as she lost the person she loves most without warning.

Since Joel’s separation, Brian and Mitzi have faced significant emotional and financial challenges. Brian, still young, is trying to cope with the trauma of losing his father again, while Mitzi is doing her best to support him and keep their household together. The uncertainty and sadness have made daily life difficult, and they are now at risk of falling behind on living expenses. Our family is doing everything we can to help, but we need support to keep Brian and Mitzi safe, stable, and hopeful for the future.
