On Thursday, August 20, Maria’s dad got detained by ICE at seven in the morning while on his way to work. Anything to help get him back home with us. I really hate how we live in this world like this. He left my little Sister and his granddaughters, who love him a lot and my mom who cries every day but got to stay strong for us . His granddaughters are always asking about their grandpa and where he is at and what time he will be home . It breaks my heart. It makes me emotional Because he came here to give us a better life. He was a provider for my little sister and my mom. Now that he's gone. It's not the same. I wish I could go back Tell him not to go to work that day. But they say everything happens tor a reason but it's hard to stay strong, knowing he is locked up in a cell where we haven't been able to see if he's OK or get any information about him. I always ask myself, like, why did this have to happen? Why did this have to happen to him He was was going to work to provide for his family and now I'm trying everything to see what we can do to not get deported to the other side because he has nobody he is no criminal some people my not understand until it happens to them. It’s so hard trying to stay strong for my siblings and my mom. I never thought I would have to experience this it’s the most Awful feeling ever I don’t  Even wish this on nobody. This all happened out of nowhere and now my mom is struggling to pay the bills and everything that’s coming up this month seeing if we are able to do it. Anything you may be able to donate is fine it doesn’t matter if it 5,10 ,20 dollars anything is fine we just want to be able to reach the goal even if don’t reach all of it  it’s okay . Kailie is one of our amazing volunteers, and right now she needs our help after a terrifying and traumatic attack. Kailie was bitten in the face by a large dog, and during the same incident, her two small dogs were attacked so badly that they were left in critical condition and needed surgery. In an instant, Kailie went from giving so much to others to facing painful injuries, emotional trauma, and overwhelming medical expenses for herself and her beloved pets.

He had just finished his shift at work and came home as usual, but this time he woke me up to help him push the car that had stopped working. I quickly got ready, but by the time I reached the car, I saw ICE agents detaining him. It was a terrifying moment—four agents had him on the ground, and from a distance, he yelled at me to go back and not come any closer. I rushed home, thinking of our children, and woke up my son to tell him what had happened. Our family was devastated and scared.

 My husband is the pillar of our family, a hardworking man, and a loving father. His sudden absence has left us heartbroken and facing severe financial instability. I am a mother of five, and while I am working, my income is not enough to cover our rent, bills, and car payments. Immigration, legal fees, and detention center phone and commissary costs accumulate rapidly, and we cannot do this alone.

He loves to play soccer and goes to Calle to play with the community. Just like the rest of us, he’s been watching the world cup and rooting for Mexico. He works two jobs to help support my brother as we get our college degrees. My dad is a hardworking man who loves his community and has shown up for his community countless times.

Our family, the Huerta Peralta family, has been forever changed. The reason why our family is no longer the same is simply because our beloved father, Orfanel Huerta, is no longer the pillar of our home. we unexpectedly lost our father today. my mom lost the love of her life.  We are in complete shock and heart broken. Anyone who knew my father knows LEONARD he was always a helping hand fixing someone’s car, air conditioner, lawn mower, randomly washing and detailing someone car. He was a jack of all trades a mechanic, tire man, truck driver etc. always on the go. He was loved by so many he had such a contagious personality always making new friends. He was a good man, a loving father and amazing grandfather. His passing was so unexpected and it’s hard to ask for help but we’re asking for donations to help put our father to rest anything helps and it’s deeply appreciated.

<br /><span style="font-size:1.0625rem;">On Friday 4/26 I came home and took Zion and Ziggy to the dog park at our apartment complex just like I always do. It had rained all morning but in the late evening the sky cleared, weather was gorgeous here in Durham, and they were happy to be out in the partly shaded park. They were racing around chasing each other and all of a sudden Zion slammed into a tree with his left hind leg and immediately he was screaming. It was the most horrible sound. My poor baby was in so much pain. Ziggy didn’t know what to do but just licked him and I picked him up off the ground. I rushed him to my car and to the emergency vet as fast as I could. </span><br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/38819698_1556391623672889_r.jpeg" alt="38819698_1556391623672889_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />The emergency vet took him in on a busy Friday night by stretcher, and it felt like a decade waiting to have an update. Several hours later, I’m told Zion has fractured his tibial crest and requires surgery as soon as possible, once swelling goes down over the next 2 days. Xrays included below. The surgeon will be in contact with us on Monday morning 4/29 after radiology has had a chance to review the imaging. <br /><br />The vet then told me that I should be prepared to pay at least <strong>$3000</strong> for Zion’s important surgery. <br /><br />As many of you know, Mike and I are not wealthy. Mike graduates from residency this year and just paid to take both the MD and the DO family medicine boards. I too just finished residency and being in my first year of fellowship, I don’t have the income or savings to be able to afford this surgery. <br /><br />We are humbly asking for the help from others so that we can get Zion back to his running-goofy self. Zion is the sweetest 1-year-old greyhound anyone has ever met. He’s also the goofiest, snuggle bear in the world. Even when in agony he still tried to lick my face as I carried him to my car. <br /><br />We need as much help as possible so that we can pay for his surgery on Monday. The goal of this fundraiser will be adjusted to match exactly the cost of his vet bills, nothing more. Whatever you can share, even if it’s $1, will help Zion. Over the weekend Mary experienced a tragic house fire, Thankfully no injuries sustained to her or her husband.  Early Monday morning the fire reignited and the house now is a total loss.  While Mary has homeowners insurance and has received a little help from the American Red Cross, it would really show great support if the Graduate Medical Education Department can come together in this time of need.
