Adelaida's* husband, Ramón*, was taken into ICE custody on April 16 and was deported to Guatemala last week. The separation has been heartbreaking for the entire family.

Adelaida and Ramón have four children: César* (16), Donato* (15), Elba* (12), and Manuel* (8 months). The older children constantly ask when they will see their father again. Elba, especially, has struggled with his absence, and Adelaida does her best to comfort them while caring for the baby.

Ramón came to the United States 13 years ago when the economy in Guatemala made it impossible to earn enough to feed his family. When he left, his oldest children were just 2 and 3 years old. Over the years, he built a life here, learning the skilled trade of home remodeling and working hard to provide for his family.

Ramón's deportation also meant the loss of the family's primary source of income. Before he was taken, they had managed to pay April's rent, and extended family members helped cover June's rent as best they could. Adelaida cleans houses when she can, but the work is inconsistent and the pay is not enough to support the family.

Since his father was detained, 16-year-old César has taken a part-time job at a restaurant to help pay the bills. He plans to continue working even after school starts. Despite these difficult circumstances, César, Donato, and Elba are all hardworking students who are doing their best to keep moving forward.

This family is doing everything they can to stay afloat, but they cannot do it alone. Your generosity will help them remain in their apartment, cover basic living expenses, and provide stability for the children while they work toward rebuilding their lives and finding a way to reunite as a family.
