On the morning of August 28, Mr. R was heading to work when his car was stopped by ICE, and he was arrested for immigration violations. Mr. R has lived peacefully in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, D.C. for over 20 years with his wife and daughter. He works hard to provide for his family, attends local Catholic mass, and is incredibly proud of his daughter, a bright local college student.
Mr. R. is now in immigration detention, and he is eligible to seek release from detention while he goes through immigration proceedings before a judge. He and his family urgently hope that he can be released from detention and return home as soon as possible.
We are raising funds to cover legal fees for Mr. R’s representation, to cover the cost of a bond for release from detention, and to support Mr. R’s family during this difficult time. Funds will be used for the following:
- An experienced immigration attorney is representing Mr. R in his motion for a bond, and the legal fees are $3,500.
- Either ICE or an immigration judge will set the bond amount, which will be no less than $1,500 and might be as high as $5,000 or $10,000.
- Any additional funds will go to Mr. R’s family to support additional legal expenses in Mr. R’s case, as well as their ongoing bills for rent, car payments, food, and other expenses as they fight to remain together.
Thank you for supporting a longtime neighbor and his family.
