Hi friends,
I know… another back-to-school fundraiser from me. You’re probably thinking, “Didn’t I donate last year?” And yes—you possibly did, and because of you, so many kids in the West Grove and Liberty City walked into school with confidence and pride. But the truth is, the need hasn’t gone away. In fact, it’s grown.
This year, Seeking Shelter, our nonprofit, is working to support 86 children living below the poverty line—kids who depend on us for uniforms, shoes, backpacks, and basic school supplies. Most of these families simply can’t afford it. Without our help, these children start the school year already feeling like they’re behind.
I want to share something personal:
Every year, I take many of these kids to Target to pick out their own backpack. Not one handed down or donated in bulk—but their backpack. And I wish you could see the way their faces light up. I wish you could hear the squeals and gasps when they spot the Spider-Man one or the sparkly unicorn one they’ve dreamed of.
Now imagine being that child—watching your classmates compare backpacks, open their fresh notebooks, take out their new crayons… and you’re sitting there with nothing new. You didn’t get to choose. You didn’t even get a say. That moment of rejection—of being left out—stays with them. That’s what we’re trying to change.
You’re even welcome to come with us to Target if you’d like to see the magic yourself. It’s a beautiful experience.
What does it cost per child?
• 3 uniform pants & 3 shirts: $51
• Jacket & socks: $17
• One pair of shoes: $25
• Backpack: $20
• School supplies (folders, crayons, pencils, etc.): $10
Total: $123 per child
$123 × 86 kids = $10,578
We know it’s a big number. But every single dollar makes a difference. Whether you can sponsor one child or just cover a pair of socks—it all matters.
Seeking Shelter is a registered nonprofit, so you can donate directly here or via Zelle (we’ll send tax exemption receipts gladly).
We’re on a mission to send 86 kids to school with pride, dignity, and joy.
