Today I will be/have shave(d) my head for National Deaf Children’s Society. I have chosen this charity because I feel a strong sense of connection with it. I am born hearing-impaired and have grown up with hearing aids on both ears. Shaving my head is mark of strength and mental ability, it’s me saying to myself that I do not care about how people will see me with hearing aids.
I grew up hating them at moments, to the point that I would not dare to say wear my hair up without taking them out. This severely impacted my learning as I simply couldn’t hear the days I did chose to not wear them. National Deaf Children’s Society works towards supporting children with hearing impairments and the view of deaf people in society and I would love to have an impact on even one young person who struggles with hearing loss.
Dealing with hearing loss impacts lots of situations in my life: mainly social settings, learning to communicate and express myself truly. Shaving my head is telling those children, those similar to me, that you are capable of doing everything and anything that everyone else can do.
Shaving my head tells my younger and future self that if I can do this, I can do anything.
In addition, my hair will be donated to the charity of Princess Trust.
Please share this and consider donating, even a small amount helps.
