We have a remaining balance of about $750.00 with our attorney. The girls' new birth certificates have arrived, but we cannot pick them up without paying off our balance, which means we cannot change their legal names with everything from the school district to doctor's offices to their health insurance.
Four months ago, my dad unexpectedly died. It was a terrible shock, and we are still grieving deeply.
In September, my husband resigned his position as pastor of youth and worship ministries because he was so totally overwhelmed by a recurrence of his depression, in part triggered by the amount of stress due to the adoption process, and exacerbated by losing his father-in-law, whom he dearly loved.
The church was very generous to us in providing a severance package, but we simply can't make our budget stretch to accomodate $750.
