Hi! My name is Rafael, and I’m an incoming Junior at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami, Florida. This summer, I’m leading a two-week empowerment program for underprivileged teens at Hogar San José de Cluny, an educational support center located in Asunción, Paraguay. Alongside local educators, our mission is to teach computer literacy, basic coding, and AI concepts to help students build tools for a brighter future.

I have a strong personal connection to Paraguay—my mother is from there—and I’ve been volunteering at Hogar San José de Cluny for the past two years. This year, I wanted to make a more meaningful contribution by using what I’ve learned to give back in a bigger way.

The children served by San José de Cluny come from families facing poverty and difficult social environments. The center provides daily academic and emotional support to 115 students, offering a safe space filled with love, care, and values-based education. However, their computer lab is in urgent need of updates, and their main learning space becomes unbearably hot during the summer due to lack of air conditioning.

We’re raising funds to not only cover materials and printed handouts for the tech classes but also to upgrade their computer lab and install air conditioning in the main hall. Your support will directly impact the learning environment of these resilient young students and help us continue building a pathway out of poverty through education.

Hola, mi nombre es Rafael, soy estudiante de secundaria en Miami, Florida. Próximamente voy a estar liderando un proyecto de empoderamiento tecnológico en el Hogar San José de Cluny, Asunción, Paraguay. Este centro educativo brinda atención a más de 115 niños y adolescentes en situación de alta vulnerabilidad social y económica.

Tengo un fuerte vínculo con Paraguay, ya que mi familia materna es de ahí, y he estado colaborando como voluntario en el hogar durante los últimos dos años. Este año decidí hacer una contribución más significativa, utilizando mis conocimientos tecnológicos para retribuir a esta comunidad que tanto me importa.

Durante dos semanas, voy a ofrecer un curso intensivo de habilidades tecnológicas y computación, diseñado para proporcionar a estos jóvenes herramientas que les ayuden a integrarse a la sociedad como personas autosuficientes y preparadas para el futuro. El programa incluirá conceptos fundamentales de informática, programación básica e inteligencia artificial.
