My name is Nick,

I’m organizing this fundraiser to help a couple who were suddenly displaced from their home just days before Christmas — through no fault of their own.

They were living in a rental that was later identified as not being registered as a legal separate dwelling. When the city became aware, the landlord chose eviction rather than making the required changes. The eviction was enforced through court-authorized municipal enforcement, leaving the couple with very little time to prepare.

They do have income and are fully capable of paying rent. However, this was an unplanned and abrupt situation, and the timing — combined with the current rental market — has created immediate challenges.

Right now, the biggest needs are short-term support while permanent housing is secured, including:

Temporary accommodation (hotel or short-term rental)

Moving and storage costs

Last month’s rent once a suitable place is found

Costs related to finding a pet-friendly rental for them and their dog

This fundraiser is not for long-term financial support, but to help bridge an unexpected and stressful gap caused by sudden displacement.

The response from the community has already been incredible — with housing leads, resources, and support being shared — and this fund is meant to complement those efforts and help stabilize things during this transition.
