Hi, my name is Franco Frenette. This fund is for my cousin, Yan Godin and his 2 kids.

Yan is 34 years old, single parent widower and cancer survivor.  

He's also on a fixed disability income.

6 years ago, Yan and his partner Elaine were in the process of setting up their perfect life and family.

Then a series of events happened that no-one should have to go through at this point in their lives.

Elaine Passed Away suddenly.
Only months after giving birth to their second, in front of Yan at the end of a long day.

Sudden heart failure caused by a rare type of undetected, symptom-less pneumonia.

Yan was left on the other side of the country, away from the rest of his family to raise 2 kids alone.

Yan wanted to continue his and Elaine's decision to raise their kids on beautiful Vancouver Island.

He did a wonderful job. They are the smartest, most well-rounded and happiest kids I know.


Cancer
As if his situation wasn’t challenging enough at this point, Yan was also diagnosed with Cancer TWICE after his wife passed away.

He had to go through harsh Chemo and a huge operation. He came close to death but he never gave up.

He stayed positive through all of it and survived. As he puts it, he had no choice, he wasn't going to leave his kids without any parents.

Through all this, he somehow managed to still make life great for his kids and have their childhood remain unaffected and one that is filled with memories that they will forever cherish.


Let’s help them turn their luck around.
Yan is the type of person that will never refuse help to someone in need. Even through all his hardships and very limited financial resources.

I've seen him giving some of his last money to help strangers in need. He's helped do a fund-raising and deliver goods and help to people that were affected by the big Alberta fire last year.

He's always been there for me also and for countless others that I'm sure will gladly attest.

I know he will be humbled by me creating this GoFund for but I feel that if more people knew of his story he could get some much needed help and turn his luck around.

Yan’s is on a fixed disability income.
Yan recently expressed a desire to find a more permanent home (instead of always staying in rental houses where they have had to move several times already) for their family, possibly in NB to be closer to family or staying in BC. 

I would like this fund to help him with the following.

Getting their own place:

Down payment on a house: $15,000

In the event that the fund would surpass the goal then the surplus would just go in a fund to help the family with education for the kids and family expenses while they're growing up.

Yan indicated a goal of wanting to go to Eastern Canada for next Summer to visit family and help with his decision of the location for their more permanent own place.

He is still considering wheter that will be in NB or remaining there on Vancouver Island. So having the funds for him with the next 5 months or so would be ideal.
