Hi all,
I just quickly wanted to speak about a fundraiser I am hosting for the detection of cancer. My grandmother had cancer in 2008, luckily, she survived thanks to the early detection of cancer. I will be walking up Glastonbury Tor for this fundraiser with my friends from my boarding house.
Globally, about 1 in 5 people will develop cancer at some point in their lives. That’s roughly 20% of the population over a lifetime. Around 1 in 9 men and 1 in 12 women die from cancer, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO, 2024). Cancer is responsible to 1 in 6 deaths worldwide. Survival rates have improved dramatically due to earlier detection and better treatments. As of 2025, about 3.4 million people in the UK are estimated to be living with cancer.
Prevention and early detection: The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 30-50% of cancers could be prevented, and early detection and treatment can significantly reduce cancer burden
All money will be donated to the Cancer Research Uk. All donations are gratefully accepted and welcome.
