Chamber Music on Jay St is dedicated to my parents--Joon and Jai.
After my mom passed away from cancer in 2016, my father, who had immigrated to Houston in 1980, moved to Brooklyn to be closer to me and my sister.
In 2018, he was considering two apartments in the area—one on a higher floor overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge and another on a lower floor across the street from a church. He eventually chose the apartment on the lower floor overlooking the parking lot on Jay Street because it reminded him of my mother whose name was Jai.
My father lived in Brooklyn for eight years before passing in 2024. Now living in his apartment, I feel that I can still connect with him—looking out into the parking lot, hearing the church bells on my walks home, chatting with his neighbors.
Creating Chamber Music on Jay St is my way of giving back to my Dad who raised me in Houston when he immigrated, but who gave me a space to be an artist in Brooklyn.
