Bringing Hope Home: Who We Are

We are Kat, Shelby, Sophia, and Zachary: students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, enrolled in a Public Writing course taught by Ms. Elizabeth Meredith. This semester, we partnered with Isaiah 117 House, a nonprofit devoted to supporting children transitioning into the foster care system. Together, we aim to “Bring Hope Home.”

The Story: The Children Who Motivate Us

Transitioning into foster care is far from easy. Children pack their entire life into one bag—a bag meant to carry every belonging, hope, and dream they have ever had. Oftentimes, they are even moved without notice due to abuse and neglect. While these children await a new home, they often have nowhere to go. During this time, they sleep on the floors of the Department of Children’s Services offices with only the clothes on their back and very few personal items (WATE 6 on Your Side) . That is where Isaiah 117 House comes in!

What Isaiah 117 House Stands For: The Nonprofit’s Role

Isaiah 117 House serves as a transition home for children in the foster care system who are awaiting long-term placements. Their goal is to show lavish love to all of the children they come in contact with. They provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by offering shelter, clean clothes, and toys to the kids that stay there. By handling this part of the transition process, social workers can focus on finding a permanent home for the children. Children can stay at Isaiah 117 House for as long as it takes to find a permanent foster home (Isaiah 117 House).

Our East Tennessee Home: The Local Stakes

East Tennessee is affected greatly by displacements in foster care:
  • Knox County: over 9,000 children in the foster care system with only 5,000 licensed foster homes in the region
  • The Average Length of Stay in East Tennessee: 646.7 days (over a year and half)
  • This span of time makes non-profits like Isaiah 117 House increasingly important in our East Tennessee community (Every Child Tennessee)
Help Us Fund For Foster Care: We Need You

This goal cannot be achieved without you and your support, so we kindly ask you to do this:
  • Give what you can – every dollar matters
  • Donate any brand-new necessity items or children’s toys to the campaign
  • Necessities: Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, etc.
  • Toys: Legos, Press-On Nails, Hot Wheels, etc.
  • Share this campaign with family, friends, churches, and social media!
Our Goal: Bringing Hope Home

We aim to raise $1,000. All proceeds will go directly to Isaiah 117 House, and your support will fund new items for the children living at Isaiah 117 House!
