Hope for Huntingtons
Huntington’s Disease has changed my family forever. My grandad had it, and so did his sister – it was the first time anyone in our family had even heard of it. It made my grandma’s marriage incredibly hard, because no one knew what this illness was or how to handle it. I grew up seeing a man who was supposed to be my grandad just sat in a chair. I never got to know him the way I should’ve. Huntington’s is something that will likely pass down through my family, and that’s a scary reality. I’m only 13,and I’ve decided to walk 2 miles every day till November 5th as my best memory of him was how he loved bonfire toffee lollies. This is all to raise money for the Huntington’s Foundation. My grandad loved exercise, and if he was still here, I know he’d be walking with me. My goal is to raise £1,000 – all of it will go to the charity. Me and my cousin Ellie (who’s 24) are also planning an event later this year to raise even more. This is personal. It’s not just a fundraiser – it’s for my grandad, for my family, and for a future with hope.
