Mike’s Half Marathon for Huntington’s Disease Research.
This year I will be taking on a challenge that means more to me than words can express. On Sunday 10th May, I’ll be running a half marathon in Bracknell, in hope to raise money for a cause that sits very close to my heart — Huntington’s disease association - https://www.hda.org.uk/ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhExSMZt1zs
Huntington’s disease is a rare, inherited condition caused by a faulty gene. Over time, it damages nerve cells in the brain, affecting movement, memory, behavior and emotions. It slowly takes away independence — the ability to walk, speak, eat, and eventually even recognise loved ones. Many describe it as a heartbreaking blend of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Motor Neurone Disease all in one.
The impact of Huntington's disease reaches far beyond the person diagnosed. It affects entire families — emotionally, mentally, and physically. It brings uncertainty, fear, and a kind of grief that begins long before symptoms appear. Because the condition is genetic, every child of an affected parent has a 50% chance of inheriting it. Families live with that weight every single day.
This is why I’m running.
Someone I love dearly is living with Huntington’s, and watching their journey has changed & triggered something within me. Their courage, their resilience, and the way they face each day with strength has inspired me to do something — anything — that might help make a difference. This run is my way of honoring them, standing beside them, and supporting the research that could one day bring hope to families like mine.
By raising money for Huntington’s disease research, I’m hoping to support the scientists and organisations working tirelessly toward better treatments, better support, and ultimately, a cure.
If you’re able to donate — even the smallest amount — it would mean the world to me. All funds that are raised leading to the marathon date, i will personally donate an additional 10% of the total donations made.
However, if donating isn’t possible, you can come down on the day to cheer me on to show your support or simply sharing this page can help raise awareness and reach others who may be able to support the cause.
From the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much for supporting & believing in my half marathon fundraiser for Huntington’s disease research. Your kindness means more than I can express. Whether you’ve donated, shared the page, or simply taken the time to read my story, you’ve played a part in helping, your support brings hope, comfort, and encouragement not just to me, but to everyone touched by this disease.
