Help Us Raise the funds to secure a new lease and location

After 20 years of serving NYC’s performing arts and photography communities, Alchemical Studios was forced to close in August 2023.

Now, we’re asking for your help to:

• Re-open our beloved and affordable rehearsal, photography and performance spaces, which will require securing a new lease at a new location.

• Launch a new Experimental Theatre School, focused on physical acting research

Why We Closed

During Covid times, we closed and opened to the rhythm of changing rules for businesses with public assembly such as ours.

Just when we got the go-ahead to fully open again, our landlord announced the sale of his building and we had to find a new location. But just as we completed renovations on our new space on W 17th:

• The building began major elevator work and other major construction in the building, disrupting our operations;

• Our rent had significantly increased;

• And the post-COVID economy didn’t return as expected

We simply couldn’t sustain the costs and had to shut our doors.

Alchemical has long been a rare and reliable home for the kind of creative experimentation that gives rise to new visions and new voices.

How can you help?

Every contribution helps—and all donations are tax-deductible.

We are also offering a few thank-you gifts:

• Donate $100 or more, and you'll be entered into a lottery to win one of Carlo Altomare’s paintings (see them here ).

• Donate $300 and you can choose to receive an Ayurvedic Massage session with Gia Lisa Krahne at the New York City Vedic Center in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

• Donate $1,000 or more, and you may select a painting of your choice (up to 40 x 30 inches).
