Whose Voices Are Missing From the Adoption Story?

For more than seventy years, adoption has been framed as a charitable rescue — a system that “saves children.” But behind that polished narrative, something vital has been missing: the voices of the people most impacted by adoption — adopted people and mothers of loss.

The Adoption HerStory Project is created to represent, preserve, and share those voices.

We know this pain personally: to be told you were abandoned at birth, when in truth the adoption industry continuously prevents you from accessing your origins. For adoptees, the wound never fully heals. For mothers, the silence is just as devastating. Their stories have been dismissed, erased, and hidden.

A Book Built From Real Voices

That is why we are curating the Adoption HerStory Project — a collection centered primarily on women’s voices, with a small number of guest men's stories, that will finally be heard. It is dedicated especially to mothers (of adoption-loss) from overseas who will never have access to their taken children.

These stories deserve to be documented - not erased, dismissed, or forgotten.

Why This Matters for Future Generations

This project is more than a book; it is a testament, an effort to document history, educate the public, and protect future generations from the hidden aftermath of adoption.

By preserving firsthand experiences, we hope to shed light on aspects of adoption that are often missing from traditional narratives. We are a small grassroots effort, but one determined to break the silence that has thrived for decades.

This collection is from our heart to yours. It offers insight into adoption that is typically kept hidden. In the past effort to protect families and the public at large from being targeted for their children.
