Hi, my name is Indie, I’m 7 years old and I’m raising money for a Hully Skipjack Pod to be used as an outdoor sensory space for my big brother.
My brother is autistic and has learning disabilities. He is my best friend and I love spending time with him. Sometimes the world can feel very busy, loud, and overwhelming for him, and that can make things harder. I want to help create a place where he feels safe, calm, and happy.
A sensory space is really important because it gives autistic people somewhere they can relax and regulate their feelings. The Hully Skipjack Pod would be a quiet, cosy outdoor space where my brother can take a break when things feel too much. It can help reduce anxiety, support emotional regulation, and give him a place where he can feel comfortable being himself. Being outdoors also helps him feel calmer and more settled.
All the money raised will go towards buying and installing the Hully Skipjack Pod so my brother has a special sensory space that he can use whenever he needs it.
I wrote this poem about my brother to show how much he means to me:
My brother is autistic,
Sometimes it makes him flappy.
My brother is autistic,
Sometimes it makes him happy.
My brother is autistic,
Sometimes it makes him sad.
My brother is autistic,
That doesn’t make him bad.
My brother is autistic,
He see’s things a different way.
My brother is autistic,
There’s lots he cannot say.
My brother is autistic,
He doesn’t like a crowd.
My brother is autistic,
I love him and I’m proud.
Thank you for helping me support my brother and make a space where he can feel calm, safe, and proud of who he is.
