Help Preserve Perth’s Urban History and Lost Myths

For the past four years, Streetkid Industries has been on a mission: to capture Perth’s history before it vanishes.
It started with demolition sites. One day a house, shop, or factory is standing, the next it’s gone—along with all the memories and stories tied to it. These places may not seem like much to some, but to others they were home, community or part of everyday life.
Think about it: how many times have you wished you could step inside a building one more time?
That corner shop where you bought lollies as a kid. The pool where you first learned to swim. Your nan’s old house. A hospital ward, a cinema, a pub… all erased.
Photographs of Perth’s past do exist but they’re often just the exteriors. What we’re losing are the details: the patterned carpets, the tiled foyers, the cupboard linings, the hand-painted signage, even the everyday objects left behind. These fragments make up the texture of our history, yet once they’re gone, they’re gone forever.
We’ve already uncovered so much:
- 40% of Rottnest Island’s WWII remains documented and mapped.
- 286 archaeological finds at Point Peron, all handed to the local museum.
Major sites like South Fremantle Power Station, East Perth Power Station, Princess Margaret Hospital, Swan District Hospital, Riverbank Prison, Stirling Towers—plus over 750 other locations painstakingly photographed and recorded.
This work isn’t easy. Gaining legal access is a constant struggle but we’re committed to trying to do it the right way. We’ve started working more and more with councils, companies and communities to ensure these stories are captured responsibly.
Now we need your help to keep going.
By supporting this GoFundMe, you’ll be helping us:
- Cover the running costs of the Perth History Database website.
- Invest in equipment for higher-quality photography and archival work.
- Expand our reach so we can document more places before they disappear.
Our goal is $12,000. With your help, we can preserve more of Perth’s history—the big landmarks and the small, personal places that shaped people’s lives.
This is history we can’t get back once it’s gone. Together, we can save it.
