Help Mariam and Ibrahim In The North

My name is Keri Myra, and I am a mother of two residing in Canada.

I wish to bring to your attention the plight of my close friends, Mariam, aged 19, and Ibrahim, aged 27, who were married just 20 days ago. Tragically, their home and the life they envisioned together have been destroyed, leaving them with nothing. They are currently stranded in the North, facing severe shortages of food and water due to a blockade on aid that has persisted for the last 90 days.

I was approached by Dina, Mariam's sister, for assistance, and I felt compelled to help without hesitation.

Mariam is expecting their first child and is over three months pregnant. She suffers from migraines, as well as low blood pressure and low blood sugar levels, which have resulted from prolonged malnutrition over the past year. It is imperative that she receives urgent medical attention and proper monitoring. She requires vitamins and nutritious meals to ensure a healthy delivery.

Ibrahim is also grappling with malnutrition, which hinders his ability to care for Mariam and their unborn child. He, too, needs adequate nutrition to support their well-being. The options for food in the North are severely limited, and what little is available comes at exorbitant prices. They have subsisted on canned goods for over a year, which lack essential nutrients. The sodium content in these cans poses health risks for both Mariam and Ibrahim.

The cost of basic items is staggering; for instance, a single egg costs $3, and a bag of sugar, considered a luxury, exceeds $30. They have not consumed fresh meat in over a year, and canned meat is not a viable substitute for a healthy diet.

Access to clean drinking water is also a significant challenge, requiring them to wait in long lines, with the risk of contamination threatening their health and that of the baby. Ibrahim works tirelessly day and night to provide for his family, but his earnings are insufficient to meet the exorbitant prices of basic necessities.
