My maternal grandmother, Diane Aeschliman, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease when I was nine. My paternal grandmother, Virginia (Gigi) Burton, who lived in this neighborhood for 23 years, had passed away of the same condition when I was only two, and the few memories I still have of her did not prepare me for the memory-loss process which lay ahead of my maternal grandmother. Over the course of nine years, we watched her forget her memories, passions, and family, losing the things that made her who she was.
I spent a lot of time in my grandmother's memory care facility, interacting with her and the other residents. Each time I left, I was more inspired to support the search for a cure. If you're able and willing, please consider donating; no amount is too small!
All proceeds go to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund and directly to researchers around the globe working towards discovering a cure.
