Hi, I'm Joanna, and I am taking an opportunity to fundraise for the World Wildlife Fund for Nature UK, which focuses on wildlife preservation and the reduction of human impact on the environment.
Climate change is a hot topic, as it has been for years. However we often rely on those above us in society to make the more eco friendly changes for us, and convince ourselves that by using a paper straw instead of plastic once a week, we're doing our fair share.
Needless to say, it's not enough. Our world is burning, our ice caps are melting, and our wildlife is being tortured by our toxic footprints.
So, what does this mean for us, in terms of wildlife, in the UK?
- Our puffin population is set to nosedive by up to 90% in the upcoming years.
- Oak tree's aren't able to adapt to our rapidly changing climate, and therefore are perishing.
- Basking sharks that gently roam our coasts are leaving home, as the sea is too warm for the food that they eat.
Just to name a few.
WWF focuses on climate, energy, agriculture, land usage, diet, consumption and finances, which are all key factors leading to the devastation we've found ourselves in.
I will be running the Royal Parks London Half Marathon in October 2025 in aid of WWF UK, with a starting target of £350 to raise. This race takes us through four of the biggest parks in the heart of London, which thrive with wildlife all year round. Every month I will host a fundraising event, in the hope of helping to tackle our crisis locally, and for our country as a whole. I will also be training regularly with people in our community, in the hope of encouraging people to be outdoors more often and improve fitness.
Diolch. Thank you.
