Walking the Camino for Huntington's Disease
Hi, I'm Philip Martin. Almost 3 years ago my wife Joanne was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease after a long period of being unwell, there was a sense of relief that we both now understood what the root cause was of her illness and as to why Joanne just wasn't getting better. It's been a very traumatic time with opening up about the neurological disease and it's impact to our family and friends as it's such a rare disease that most people are unaware of what it actually is and how it impacts individuals, families and friends.
Over the last few years we have looked to raise as much awareness around Huntington's Disease through charity runs, reaching out to our local MP and getting our much needed concerns raised at first ministers questions with a promise of reviewing the care framework in Scotland, Hosting our first Annual Gala event, setting up a much needed family led support group and help raise much needed funds for the charity Scottish Huntington's Association who provide us support via their care framework.
So in March 2026 I am walking almost 120km of the Camino pilgrimage to raise awareness on HD and funds for Scottish Huntington's Association, money raised will be used to support the HD support and specialist service provided to the individuals and families impacted by HD.
I will be documenting my journey through the preparation and the actual walk itself with Vlogs.
Want to join me in making a difference?
Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me, my family and the Scottish HD community.
