I’m running the half marathon to raise money for the NICU in Plymouth as a way of saying thank you for the incredible care they gave my twin nephews. They arrived unexpectedly, 12 weeks premature, and from the very beginning the NICU team went above and beyond.

The medical care my nephews received was outstanding, but what truly stood out was the compassion, empathy, and support shown to my sister and brother-in-law during one of the most frightening times of their lives. The staff didn’t just care for two tiny babies — they cared for an entire family.

This run is my way of giving something back to a unit that gives so much to families when they need it most. Every donation, no matter the size, will help support the vital work of the Plymouth NICU and make a real difference to future families facing similar challenges. For the month of June Tai and Noah will embark on a journey to walk 15 miles to raise money for Keep Me Close Plymouth. This charity is very close to our hearts as it supports the most special men, women and babies who have the roughest starts to life.

Our son Noah was born at 31 weeks gestation after PPROM at 29 weeks. He was born weighing a small 3lb 5oz and spent the first three weeks of his life being cared for by the amazing NICU team in Plymouth. Without these amazing individuals Noah's journey would have ended very differently. Not only did they work hard to keep our son alive, they supported us as family and included our 7 year old as much as possible.

Leaving your child in a hospital and walking out alone knowing your baby is poorly is honestly the worst feeling I've ever experienced, if it wasn't for the Keep Me Close photo updates and Facebook page it would have been more difficult to handle. This amazing foundation brings NICU parents together to support each other as well as providing vital accommodation for families that live out of Plymouth to allow them to be close to their babies.

Thanks to the amazing staff Noah is now almost 2 and loving his life! Tai has decided to raise money in aid of Keep me close Plymouth to support other families that have been in this situation. He believes family is the most important thing and keeping families close to their children is just as important as all the medicines in their road to recovery.

I'm raising money in aid of Plymouth Hospitals General Charity, the keep me close appeal.

This charity helped me and my family out massively when my partner Lisa gave birth unexpectedly at 24+2 weeks to our baby boy Hayden, weighing a tiny 1lb 7oz (650g) on 22/12/2023. Our boy spent 7 weeks in NICU at derriford hospital Plymouth. During that time keep me close funding our accommodation so that we could be close to him. This helped us out so much at such an emotional worrying time & took the strain off us financially. This charity is amazing at supporting family’s like ours so I am doing a sky dive in May to help raise as much money as possible so future family's that find themselves in this situation can be supported like we was.

I'm raising money in aid of Plymouth Hospitals General Charity and in Particular the Keep Me Close Appeal because this charity helped my sister and brother in law when they unexpectedly had their new born baby at 24+2 days on 22.12.23 weighing a tiny 1lb 7oz. They then remained at Derriford hospital for 7 weeks where baby was in NICU and due to the fundraising that the keep me close appeal had raised previously they was able to provide parents with a place to stay, daily food vouchers and even day out tickets as they also was able to have their 2 year old daughter stay with them keeping them all close to their premie baby boy Hayden.

After 7 weeks baby Hayden was well enough to be transfered to Truro hospital where he stayed for a further 8 weeks and was able to leave on the 3.4.24 a week before his actual due date.

So if anyone can help me to help them i will be completing a skydive on 25.5.25 to raise as much money as i can and all money raised will go to the keep me close appeal as a massive thank you for all their help and support they gave. So let's keep raising funds to help future families who may find themselves in the same circumstances.

Unfit, overweight and hate running so what’s the best thing to do? Yep, enter the London Marathon!

 

You should know me well enough to know how hard this is going to be. So to help motivate me I have decided to raise as much as possible for an amazing project that is very very close to my heart and somewhere that has personally helped us - The ‘Keep Me Close Appeal’. This appeal raises funds specifically for the Plymouth NICU parental accommodation unit.

If I can raise enough to help just one family stay with their newborn baby through their treatment, at a time when it should be the happiest time of their life, then all my suffering over the next few months will be worth it. The ‘Keep Me Close Appeal’ comes under the Plymouth Hospital charities umbrella. I have been assured however that every penny raised of my fundraising will go directly towards the appeal and directly towards the accommodation for future parents to benefit. 

 

I know times are tough, and people are always asking for money but please please spare anything you can. Even if it’s the cost of a pint you may buy me for doing it. I cannot express how much it will mean to me to complete this and donate whatever I can.

The beginning of this year I finally found the strength to seek answers surrounding my mums passing I had been longing for. Without the support of PALS, I would never have gotten this closure I desperately need to finally grieve my mum.
