365 Days of Socks Challenge

Tax deductible
Hey guys and gals,

Those of you that have followed me for a while saw that last year I undertook a challenge where every day for the entire year I wore a different pair of sock and posted a picture on Instagram.

Why did I decide this? Well simply, because I could and wanted to. But really, I wanted to do something where in essence I could give back to my community. I didn’t know what or how I would go about such task, what I did know was I wanted to use social media platform like. I had seen other instagramers that had done their versions of 365 day challenge, and I thought that would be cool to do. But of what? I wanted to do some very unique… I’m not a great nature or portrait photographer, and I needed something I could do for a whole year… I thought, ‘hey I have a bunch of socks so why not?’ The best part was that I could after that donate them once the challenge was completed. I figured socks are probably something that isn’t really thought of as donation items despite them being a bare essential of daily wear. Usually, items donated are such as clothing, shoes, non-perishable food, toiletries, toys, school supplies, etc… Yet who wouldn’t appreciate some cool looking sock swag!

And so, 365 Days of Socks challenge was born and started.

Now, when I first started, I didn’t have enough socks to make it through an entire year. But fortunately, I am a fortunate guy, and many friends contributed to the cause, I even had sock companies pitched in. I learned so much throughout this experience. I learned immensely about the sock game industry (you’d be surprised how intricate it is, from the different companies, styles, fabrics, and the logistics of it all), photography and editing, and a few of the nuances of social media. And I also met some incredible people from a very tight-knit sock aficionado community, and I am truly blessed of their reception.

Day after day, sock after sock, pic after pic, post after post. The year passed, and my challenge was complete. Thanks again to all the people that supported me along the way, couldn’t have done it with each and every one of you.

However, I still didn’t quite yet know which charity I wanted to donate the socks to. I wanted to make sure that the whichever I collaborated, they were making a meaningful impact in the community. Outreached out to several but after months of patiently going back and forth networking and searching, I have finally decided to collaborate with a non-for-profit organization called Chapman Partnership (@chapmanpartnership). Their mission is to empower homeless men, women, and children to build a positive future by providing the resources and assistance critical to growth and stability. They offer a wide array of support services that go far beyond just emergency shelter. Including comprehensive case management, health, mental and dental care, day care, job development and training, job placement, permanent housing assistance and other support from a variety of social service agencies all under one roof to 800 men, women and children daily. Why them? Despite Chapman Partnership helping to reduce the homeless rate in our community, there are still plenty of individuals that could use a roof over their shoulders and benefit from any essential necessity items that we could spare. I am grateful and blessed that I have a roof over my shoulder and nice warm socks to keep my feet warm every day. Often times, we take many of these simple joys for granted, and I think this is one area we could make a difference even if it is minuscule.

With that being said, the reason for this message aside from informing you guys with whom I will be collaborating is that I am to opening up a donation banks to all those whom would like to donate and help make a change. I will be accepting anything you all can donate…monetary donations (via https://www.gofundme.com/365-days-of-socks-challenge) or items such as clothing and accessories, shoes, socks, non-perishable food, toiletries, school supplies, books, toys, furniture, baby items, towels, and linens. I will then make a drop off to a Chapman Partnership location where donations (including the socks!!!) will be distributed to participants.

If anyone is interested in donating or being further involved in the collaboration, please feel free to contact at my email or via DM on IG @peterbgreat or telephone number.

The donation banks will be open for several days. Message me for location. After collection of donations from each site, they will be taken to Chapman Partnership headquarters.

Thank you all!
