When I was 10 years old, a devastating earthquake annihilated Haiti, leaving thousands of Haitians without homes and loved ones. As I peered through unfallen tears while watching the news story about the disaster, I felt my ears get hot and my cheeks turn red, mourning for people that I have never met and yearning desperately to heal my fellow man but possessing no power to do so. Until that moment, I had never experienced what it is like to be an international citizen. That day, I learned the nature of sympathy and empathy as I cried myself to sleep.
This event opened my eyes, enabling me to understand what it is like to be in another persons shoes. The day after the quake, my sadness transformed into determination. I did as much as a 10-year-old could do to help but I was limited in how much of a difference I could make.
Now I have the opportunity to go to Haiti and work together on a project organized by The Road to Hope , a non-profit started by Rich and Lisa Harris who are parents of students at my school. The organization is dedicated to helping the children of Haiti have a brighter future and has been working on this project in the rural town of Nordette, Haiti since 2012.
When I heard about this trip, the 10-year-old inside me reminded me how deeply I yearned to help the people of Haiti in any way I can. Now that I have the chance to help in Haiti,  I hope to further strengthen the side of me that is an international citizen, neighbor, and friend.
The trip is expensive and, as a high school student, I don't have the power to raise enough money by just babysitting and cleaning houses. I would be so grateful if you could help send me on this trip where I will finally be able to help with my own two hands.
Surely you will be helping me if you donate but you will also be helping the children of Nordette, Haiti as I will work tirelessly and give them all the love I have to give while I am there. I will need to raise the money by March 10th as the trip is from March 11-17. Your support means so very much to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
