Safe water for Flint

$23,856 of $100 goal

Raised by 528 people in 31 months
I live in Lansing now, but I have many friends and family in Flint. Quite a few with young children. So when I heard the story about lead in the Flint water, it felt really personal.

Flint switched from Detroit water to using their own Flint river as a water source in April 2014. Since then, the water quality has declined. The water was cloudy, people complained of a funny taste and smell. They were told to boil water and given filters. Yet, nothing was done until children started going to doctors and finding extremely elevated lead levels,

There are children who  already have irreversible damage, but I would like to do what I can to help so that it doesn't continue. Let's give the kids, elderly, and everybody in between safe drinking water.

I am accepting donations of cases and gallons of unopened water. If you are too far to drop off or have me pick up, you can donate funds and I can buy them to take over.

For water donations, feel free to contact me at carrie.dee@icloud.com or carrie.dee@hotmail.com

Any and all donations will be appreciated.

I just wanted to update donors on recent donations. They haven't been lost! I have a little over $300 in recent donations. I was waiting to get enough to order a full semi and hand out water like that again. Please, continue to share and spread the word. If you would like to help in another way, feel free to contact me at carrie.dee@hotmail.com

Thank you all for continued support and for keeping Flint residents in your thoughts!

Update: As you know, bottled water is no longer free to residents because lead in water is "below federal levels". However, today they made an announcement for a boil advisory. Water is safe if you first filter it, then boil it. (Boiling water with high lead levels actually increases the parts per billion of lead in the water)

Thank you and bless you, Carrie, for all you are doing to help mitigate this crisis which was created by the callous and criminal governor of your state. There is enough money in your GoFundMe stash to rent UHaul trucks and pay drivers if you need to. Do whatever you have to do to a) get that water to the people who desperately need it ASAP and b) keep from burning out because you're trying to take on too much by yourself. In this insane world, it helps to know there are good, good souls like you!

These people cannot even bathe in the water or do dishes. Lead is the WORST to have in the water. You can't boil it away. Maybe some of the money can be used for filters. Aquasana have the best lead removing filters as well as other harmful items. They also have almost everything half off at the moment. They may also make a deal with you for the people of Flint. They have filters for everything including the whole house. You could even offer to contribute a certain dollar amount towards the purchase. Just a thought. I know they need water now to drink. This isn't going away fast though. The whole piping system needs to be replaced. Keep up the good work!

If this water crisis is indeed a responsibility of our governor, then why is it a surprise to anyone that he would allow this to happen? The governor does not care about Michigan's children, he uses them to keep Michigan funded. Every day in this state children are removed from their biological families to bring federal dollars into Michigan to help support the state. These children die 6 to 7 times faster in state care than in parental care, per the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN) in Washington, DC. These children suffer their entire lives and over 60% of them end up in our prisons, where the government gets funding again. Ask me about this....my grandchild was legally kidnapped over being offered a cookie to quickly finish her lunch one day. In Michigan courts it was stated that Michigan could not allow a child to be bribed in this manner, so they were taking her. She brought and continues for the last 11 years to bring Michigan federal funding to help support the state and the people that adopted her. She was a most precious child and very beautiful. Our governor would not even answer with a letter when given the information of how she was sold into adoption. Because he prefers not to admit where the federal funding comes from in this state. Governor Snyder needs to be arrested for his crimes to Michigan and especially to the children of this state!! If the public would rise up and demand to know about the children this is happening to in Michigan (and all other states.....it is billions each year paid to states), then the abuse of Child Protective Service and our family courts could be exposed. The media will not report on this because it involves so many government people and judges. The media across our state and all other states are well aware, because tens of thousands of families lose children every year, 80% of those families are accused wrongly through false allegations, like a cookie. Demand our governor answer for the CPS crimes and the water crime in Flint NOW!!

Only NSF 53 certified filers reduce lead, and most most pitcher-type filters don't. NSF 53 certified systems that do reduce lead are listed at http://info.nsf.org/Certified/DWTU/Listings.asp?TradeName=&Standard=053

I wonder if the supply can meet the demand? Why hasn't the Federal Government or at least the National Guard stepped in? This is clearly a catastrophe that should qualify for help on that scale.

I think the practice of taking control of local municipalities away from the people has been proven to be a flawed, heavy handed way to approach any political problem.
