Book Giveaway & Mentoring Tour

Hi, Christopher Brooks here and I’m on a mission to bring love, compassion, and understanding to youth in foster care who don’t feel loved or understood. I know this feeling intimately and deeply because I was once one of these youth.

At the tender age of 4, I was taken away from my mother and placed into foster care. By the time I reached 19 years old, I was shuffled through 40 different foster homes, group homes, and behavioral institutions.

And every time I was moved into a new home I was expected to feel and act like none of this happened. Like I wasn’t scared or hurting deep down inside. And when I was unable to love or be loved by my new parents, they took it personally and kicked me out. Time and time again.

This constant feeling of unworthiness and rejection has had a lasting impact on my life that I’m still recovering from to this day. And this is true for many of the 500,000 children in foster care.

As an adult, I started mentoring youth in foster care. To help them feel loved and understood. And to teach them that they are not broken, but come from a broken system. And as a member of the National Foster Youth Advisory Council, I worked tirelessly to inform, educate, and help transform the foster care system nationwide.

I recently published a book about my experiences growing up in foster care titled, “My Life With 40 Parents: intimate reflections of a foster child”.

Starting July 4th I’ll be traveling across the country visiting 40 cities in 90 days. To connect with those youth who are feeling lonely, unworthy, rejected and misunderstood just like I did. And helping them to understand why foster care happens and what they can learn from it.

I’ll also be giving away copies of the book to parents, caseworkers, CASA’s, policy makers, etc. To help these adults better understand why these youth think, feel, and behave the way they do. In hopes that these adults gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of how to care for and advocate for the youth.

If you choose to even contribute $1 to this cause you will have helped at least one child understand why foster care happens and what they can learn from it. And this will help them heal in more ways than you can even begin to imagine.

Because there's purpose, value, and meaning in everything.

And if these youth continue to focus on the pain that they’re experiencing they will continue to suffer. But if they’re taught how to focus on the lessons they will continue to heal and grow.

For example, growing up in foster care has taught me very valuable skills. Such as how to be adaptable, resilient, resourceful, and intuitive. And I’m sure these skills (or superpowers as I like to call them) will serve me greatly for the rest of my life. And the same is true for many foster care alumni I’ve connected with over the years.

Whatever you choose to donate today, I thank you for your contribution.

Thank you for your love, support, and listening today. And even if you’re unable to contribute, I hoped you learned something about foster youth today. Please help me spread the word by sharing this video and downloading a free copy of the ebook.
