Save the Brewer Family Farm Legacy

I can't tell you how many school field trips my children have taken to the Brewer Family Dairy Farm.  Jerry and Michelle are the very epitome of community. For over sixty years their family has welcomed children to their farm and employed more than 400 people from the community.  They have worked tirelessly in the community through their church, county government and various organizations.  They are always the first ones to help when a friend or neighbor is in need.  TODAY, THEIR FAMILY NEEDS OUR HELP.   Next month they will lose their farm. The land that their family has known and loved for the last seventy five years will be split up and go up for auction. You see, according to a national census by the United States Department of Agriculture, in 1950 there were about 3.5 million farms with milking cows. By 2012, that number had plummeted to 58,000. The Brewers are a casualty of this trend with large commerically owned dairy farms pushing out family owned operations. The Brewer Farm is the last dairy farm in Crawford County.  We won't be able to save most of what they will lose, but we can try to save the original 20 acres that Elmo began the dairy farm on in 1956. We can help preserve the legacy that Elmo & Marie and Jerry & Michelle want to leave to Trent, Reggie, Katie and their families. Trent and others will try to buy back as much equipment and land as possible during the auction including the land around Trent's home.  It is time for us to step up as a community and support the Brewers as they have supported us all of these years. Help provide the Brewer Kids with the means to buy back as much of the farm as possible, specifically the 20 acres where it all began.  Anything will help $5 to $500, but we need to act fast as the auction is just a few weeks away. We are stronger together than we are alone.

Thank you for all of the donations!!! We have some other small fundraisers going on as well. I will post totals for those in an update when I have them. The online auction ends the 9th and 10th. We have a few more days to raise as much money as possible to allow them to try to keep the original 20 acres! Their story has been on WDRB and WFPL , you can see those on the links below.

Let's make one last push for this family! In a time when our world and especially our nation needs to be reminded that there is good and kindness in this world, I am encouraged by this outpouring of love!
