The current pool in Wessington Springs was constructed in 1974 and has served the city well as a recreational resource for families that reside here and community visitors. During the last pool season, the pool used 700,000 gallons of water. 180,000 gallons are contributed to the beginning fill and some maybe from evaporation, so it is figured that about 500,000 gallons of water is lost somewhere through leaks under the decking area where the plumbing is currently located. After researching for approximately seven months, along with a feasibility study by a pool professional, it has been determined that our pool is beyond a band aid repair and near a state of emergency for a renovation to fix the problems, although mother nature has accepted where the pool sits and the hole.  The renovation would include tearing off the current decking  and removing the plumbing that is under it.  The plumbing  would then be placed under a grate surrounding the edges of the pool and along with a new decking surrounding the pool. The renovation would also include an upgrade to the current baby pool making it more of a zero entry pool with the grade from 6 inches to 18 inches and a couple of new water features. The renovation costs are approximately $550,000, which is hoped to be funded through private donations, public and private grants and fundraising events. The WS Pool Task Force welcomes any level of contribution to make our research a reality. To see more pictures of the proposed pool renovations and to follow our progress, please visit the WS Pool Task Force Facebook page at www.facebook.com/WSPoolTaskForce/ . Our hope is to continue to offer our pool to those that are spending a day, a month, or the rest of their lives in Wessington Springs, SD.
