Today11/29/2017. It has been over 5 months that we have been here with our son Dezmen. I have not been working due to wanting to be with my son every second I can due to his circumstances. Doctors are still concerned with many issues concerning Dezi’s health, because of everything his body has been through due to his heart defect, and just his heart issues period. Dezi’s left ventricle is still not functioning correctly. And his tiny body has been opened up more times then i care to talk of. They cannot give us any answers of what his life expectancy with the heart he has now, or with a new heart as well can or will be. we don’t know short term outcome or long term out come. This is my son we are talking about , so As a parent all of this is hard to understand, and deal with. Not knowing what could happen, from one minute to the next. I recently had went back to work but i couldn’t do it. I can’t be away from him not knowing that Dezi could maybe in a matter of seconds decline from what seems to be great, to him either not going to make it again or just declining period... we’ve already been through all of this too many times to count. Dezi just had a G Tube placed in this stomach on Monday because we couldn’t seem to get him to eat orally, well enough to suffice. As we speak they are in the process of getting us out of the door, and back home. While you would think going home after all of this time would be great....it’s not we are scared to death. We are working with the hospital staff as hard as possible to learn how to take care of Dezi the best way possible without nurses and doctors. So with all of this said we are in a huge Bind with bills, other household expenses, and 6 other children as well. We need help financially to keep a roof over our heads, without touching Dezi’s medical portion for his nest egg we have saved. Any help is greatly appreciated. And we will forever be thankful. From a mother and father of a very sick but very amazing Little boy love to you all!

As of November 3rd, 2017 my son Dezmen Malachi Licea still resides here at Valley Children’s Hospital here in Madera! We had been working tirelessly on trying to get him to eat orally but for some reason my son hasn’t grasped it just yet. We are thinking maybe we need to try letting him feel hungry, and see if that will help. They decided to give it a break for a week or so and then try again. I’m still frustrated with a few things here, but am just praying for the best for our family. Dezmens heart at this moment is still the same, and his left ventricle remains inactive. This is very scary for Alicia and I for the simple fact that they seem to want to send us home. My son is too sick to be home right now and needs constant medical supervision and I know this in my heart. I know that the money set aside for Dezi is just pennies compared to what they are expecting to get for real upfront help that he deserves so we have set up his go fund me for his nest egg. No hospitals are willing to take him still and it’s excuse after excuse. None of this was expected, Ive worked hard to take care of my family, and keep a roof over their head that is my role as a father, however the cards have changed and here we are, almost 2 hours away from our home and Work. I am still not working so I can be with my son, and wife at the moment; because I don’t know what could happen at any moment with his heart condition. It’s hard....all of this I don’t want to ask for help but, at this moment that is our only option. If anyone of you could donate that is forever appreciated, and if not a simple share will help spread his story as well!! Thank you!

Dezmen Malachi Licea was born the 26th of June, 2017 at 7:50 pm weighing 8lbs 1oz and handsome as ever. My wife Alicia held our son for a total of about 10 seconds, Little did we know that it would be a very long time before we got to feel him in our arms again. He was taken right away! Dezi was born with a rare birth Defect called TAPVR which means the veins that carry oxygenated blood from the lungs are connected in random places that they shouldn’t be rather than the Atrium of his heart. Dez was taken in for Emergency surgery within a few hours where the defect should have been easily fixed, but complications arose and left my sons heart very sick. His left ventricle from lack of oxygen had “died” and is no longer able to do its job. They put him on ECMO life support. The doctors wanted us to take him off, and kept saying things such as “just let him go!” “He’s pretty much dead!” And “only the machines are keeping him alive!” However we weren’t going to give up on our son, no way no how!! That is not what God wanted us to do! Dezi laid on life support for 45 all while we scrambled to get another hospital to give a second opinion and help us,...they wouldn’t touch him! On August 10th at 9:30 in the morning Alicia and I came back from getting some food to find them in Dezi’s room taking him off of life support without our consent! Now, these doctors don’t believe my son would make it past 6 hours and he is still here and thriving to the best of his capability! Within the first 5 days they did several procedures, with the last procedure causing complications, leaving him on a high output ventilator for a few days because his body just couldn’t handle the stress. My sons body was tired, and that was his way of saying please slow down and give me a moment to catch up! Dezmen recovered, and he did it well! I’ve never seen someone so small be so strong, and have so much perseverance!! From then, until now Dezmen has received a surgery to place a shunt to drain brain fluid into his bladder. Another to remove lines from his chest and heart. He has proved every doctor wrong and is still here despite their actions, and instruction! We finally got to hold our son since on September 17th, 2017! As of now Dezmen has been weaned off of the machines, and oxygen tube was removed and he only has the feeding tube for now. He was moved from PICU to NICU on the 9th of October, and we are working on his feeding orally, and he is slowly getting the hang of that as well. Dezmen still has a very long road ahead of him as his heart is still very sick and his left ventricle has had no change. No other hospitals will accept him still to this day giving so many reasons as to why yet when those reasons get accomplished it’s still a “No!” the hospital he is in now does not have what it takes for Dezmen to survive if things take a turn, and we need help financially to place in his nest egg for if and when the time comes, and for medical expenses as of now, money plays a huge factor in their denial of my son. I am not working now and need as much assistance as possible! I hate having to ask but my son and family are more important than my pride, and I will do what it takes to keep my family afloat, and secure. We have 6 other children at home ranging from ages 13-3 and I don’t want to lose their house, and us to not have a place to go. None of this was expected but this is our life as of now. My job is 3 hours away from Dezmen so that really isn’t an option for the time being. If anyone would like to donate to Dezi’s go fund me it will forever be appreciated from the bottom of our hearts! We also have T-SHIRTS and bracelets for sale as well! I am forever grateful to all who have stuck by our side through these last couple months! THANK YOU!!

My son was born with a heart defect Jun 26,2017, He had open heart surgery first day born. He was put on ecmo life support right after .. They told us he was going to die without machine and that he needed a heart. He was on ecmo for over 40 days with an open chest. He got an fungal infection.. We have applied to a lot of hospitals all over United States and they have gave us multiple answers, high risk, money, transportation, d ont want to risk program for your son, etc.... He is now off ecmo 27days today Sep 6,2017, with his chest closed.. He has beat the fungal infection. He is fighting for a chance to live... HE has proved all the doctors wrong... He has had one set back since he has been off.. They tell us now that he is good short term.. and long term he will not make it.. His heart is still very sick... I want to be with him everyday... I'm still looking for other hospitals to see if they can offer something more then just a death sentence. If you can help me in any way.. I would greatly appreciate it with all my heart ... If you want to send any gifts, you can send it here.
