Water Planning Project

Donation protected
Background: Water is a human right in the Ecuadorian Constitution. Water use for human needs and small-scale farming are specifically prioritized above industrial use.
Despite this progressive constitutional prioritization, water rights have been violated in the Dulcepamba watershed in Bolívar, Ecuador.  An accurate multi-year data assessment of water availibility and water demand is necessary in order to help 72 small-scale farming communities engage in responsible watershed planning that will ensure the continued health and vibrancy of the region.

Current Status: We are three and a half years into the study now, and we finally have enough data to:
1. Help farmers accurately identify how much water they need for domestic use, farm animals, and crop irrigation
2. Work with local communities and governments to develop more rigourous, data-based water use management plans for the watershed.

At the same time that everything is coming to a head, our primary grant runs out at the end of March 2017. We are applying to have that grant renewed, but even if it is, we will have a 3 month gap in funding. Therefore, we urgently need $6,000 to:
1. Continue paying our Ecuadorian team members' salaries
2. Purchase and repare equipment that we need to continue our meteorological and hydrological studies

Please donate to help us continue our important work during this time!
Although we are looking for $6,000 more to fully fund these efforts, every dollar is extremely helpful to the ongoing success of the project.
