VPM Rebuild Rincon Fund

$40,105 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 166 people in 12 months
We are so grateful for all your thoughts and kind hearted messages about our beloved spot in Rincon, Puerto Rico.  We are so thankful that our extended family and friends are now safe and already working to rebuild their lives.

Over the past few years, we  have fostered many connections with local businesses and community organizations on this beautiful island.  Many of you have spent time each year soaking up the vibes that this special place has to offer.  Now its our time to return the favor.

Our intention with this fundraiser is to provide direct aid that will allow Rincon to get back on its feet as soon as possible providing the services and experiences that drive its tourist-based economy.

Over the last week, we've been in close communication with our team in Rincon to access the needs of the community and are now ready to create and distribute a Rincon-focused relief fund.  100% of the proceeds of this fund will be given directly to local Rincon businesses and individuals to help them rebuild, and get back to doing what they do best.

With your help, we look forward to turning this devastating storm into an opportunity to give back to all  those who've welcomed us into this special community.

Thank you for joining us.

Roxanne and Russ

UPDATE to our FUNDRAISING effort for PUERTO RICO! We have partnered with local businesses: Katarina Sail, Alert Security, and HQJ Plumbing and have purchased 210 water cisterns that are scheduled to arrive this week! We are happy to report that Russ Scully and Chuck Patterson are heading to Puerto Rico on Thursday to join the team in Rincon to distribute, install and fill the 350 gallon cisterns throughout the 10 Barrios in Rincon. We believe this sustainable project will provide water to many families in Rincon, now and later. We have yet to reach our goal so if you are willing and able to support this project-- please do. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for joining us in this effort. Russ will be posting progress of this project via our Villa Playa Maria instagram account. Make sure to follow along and share this post far and wide! It takes a village and we are so grateful.

Be well,
Roxanne and Russ

I am so happy to report that Russ and our good friend Chuck Patterson arrived in Rincon, Puerto Rico on Monday afternoon and spent the week distributing and installing the 200 water cisterns to some of the neediest homes and families in Rincon.

One hundred percent of your donation dollars went toward the purchase and execution of this project. of over 200 cisterns each of which has the capacity to capture and store over 345 gallons of water. Access to clean drinking water has been one of the most significant challenges to Rincon and other parts of the island since Hurricane Maria. These cisterns provide families with a long term solution to inconsistent water service well after the hurricane clean up.

We are so grateful for all of your donations, shares, and fundraising events that benefited this cause. You should feel very proud of the results of this effort and the lives that you changed forever. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful volunteers and staff who helped us organize and execute this effort: Katarina Sail Charters, Alert Security, HQJ Plumbing, Radical Rincon, Amy, Elizabeth, Geraldine, Scott, Sam, Brian, Carlos, Ryan, Emily, Hank, John, Damon, Stefan, Jesse, Russ, Chuck, and so many more. I really takes a village...

Please check out some of the of amazing videos created during this project by visiting the Instagram accounts of @wndnwvs, @villaplayamaria, @chuckpatterson and @russscully.

It has been almost three weeks since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and I am feeling so much gratitude for the amazing amount of love, generosity and support from many people who want to help the people of this beautiful island. Russ and I have spent much of the past weeks waiting patiently as communications slowly came back up allowing us to reach our loved ones in Rincon. We are happy to report that our team has been actively helping others in need on the island and have been preparing a plan to help in a bigger way.

One of the biggest concerns after the storm was clean water. We have heard reports of folks collecting water running down off of the mountain for household use. In awareness of this problem and hopes of helping in the future, we have combined efforts with a local business in Rincon who has generously offered to sell us water cisterns at cost. With the funds we have raised thus far, we could purchase roughly 150 cisterns and if we reach our goal we could increase that number to 210. This would make a significant difference in the lives of the people that call Rincon their home. We have mobilized a volunteer team to identify households in the 10 Barrios who need the cisterns. In the upcoming months, we will purchase and begin installing the cisterns all around Rincon. As storms are a permanent way of life for Rincon’s residents, we feel that the benefit from this project will last a lifetime.

Once again, thank you so much again for your generous donations. If you are still able to give or share this information with others please do. Together we are so much stronger. Please know you have made a big difference in these people’s lives.

Roxanne

Thanks again to all of you who have supported our fund to help Puerto Rico. News from Rincon is starting to trickle in. As devastating as Maria was, the overarching theme coming from this part of the island is that the community is banding together, sharing supplies and helping those in need get back on their feet. I wish I had more to report at this stage but communications with our team are still spotty. We will keep you posted on the relief efforts as they unfold. I'm so grateful to all of you. I know this will make a difference to the people of Rincon.
