VEGAN THANKSGIVING FOR THE HOMELESS
Hey!
My name is Kevin, and I see and feel the power of food beyond measure.
The way a simple flavor of food can strike instant nostalgia, joy and/or comfort, The way we guide our eating habits around this and move towards what taste good is amazing.
Well, since a lot of us eat 3+ times a day.. it can be easy to take it for granted. Alot of homeless people right in our hometowns aren't eating much and if so, nothing too nourishing.
I envision tieing the two together this Thanksgiving in OVERTOWN Miami, Delicious and nutritous VEGAN munchies for the homeless.
In 2017, Overtown is still a FOOD DESERT with the only food sources in the neighborhood being corner stores.
After doing some extensive research, I came to find out that Historic Overtown is the poorest/lowest income zipcode in the ENTIRE FLORIDA.
So we will be cooking for the homeless community of Overtown,
Some parts of the neighborhood are so graphic, it looks like a dumpster site in a third world country.
My mission is to to raise the vibe, and perhaps give them a taste of something they perhaps haven't tried before. but Ultimately to feed a soul! Especially for the holidays, come show love!!!
We fed on thanksgiving last year and it was too much fun to not keep going. We stepped into some corners of miami that many haven't and we cannot unsee the poverty that exists.
It's only just that with the abundance many of us experience, we give of our time, talent, and treasure.
100% PLANT BASED VEGAN FOOD for our fellow human beings who may not be as fortunate as us to be surrounded by an abundance of family and food for Thanksgiving evening.
I don't see food as a means of "getting the job done" but rather the quality of our life. The energy, creativty, clarity, and our sense of well being we feel is in a big proportion correalated to our food quality.
Who ever turned down delicious food?
Creating yummy vegan food is an invitaiton to give someone more life!
People will always be hungry, so let us feed them something good.
I am brainstorming a well rounded, specific FESTIVE menu (with a budget) to serve this Thanksgiving morning. DESERT too!!
EVERY SINGLE PENNY is contributed to buying and making food, water, plates, plastic wear, containers, etc.
EVERY DOLLAR MEANS ONE MORE MOUTH/SOUL FED!
I want to have collected the funds by Nov.20 to have everything squared away and get to cookin!!!
Not only is this about the food, but homeless people are often times looked right past. And certain stigmas/judgements still exist. Sometimes a simple interaction is enough to validate them and help them feel love. Its the little things!!
