Union Hotel Dayton Restoration Fund
During the gold rush, the hotel was used as a hostelry for miners and travelers. In later years, it was a boarding house and personal residence. It’s also been in several movies including The 1961 classic The Misfits staring Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. In 1999, the long term owner and resident since 1950, Edna MacDiarmid, passed away and the structure has been slowly deteriorating ever since making it one of Nevada’s most endangered historic structures.
My wife and I are now pleased to take on the historic preservation of this venerable structure as a residence in the same way that Edna looked after the hotel for 49 years. Both the community and the county planning commission have welcomed us with open arms but we are still faced with seismic retrofits to bring the building into compliance with modern building codes. The preliminary estimates have come in between $75K and $100K and while we expect to pay the majority of this, my wife and I are hoping that the community at large can help us with preserving this historic structure for the future enjoyment of all.
I would love to see this as a bed and breakfast, we need rooms in Dayton for quests
