My name is Nicholas, and I’m reaching out for help after an unexpected setback that’s made life much harder for both me and my girlfriend, Polly. Polly is disabled and often struggles with mobility—some days, she’s even bedridden. I recently bought a car so I could drive her to doctor’s appointments, help her get around the city, and manage my own work needs. Unfortunately, just a month after buying the car, the radiator broke and now the engine needs to be replaced. This has left us without reliable transportation at a time when we need it most. 
 
 
 Having a working car is so much more than a convenience for us—it’s a lifeline. It means Polly can get to her medical appointments safely and comfortably, and I can continue to support us by getting to work and running essential errands. Without the car, our world has become much smaller, and Polly’s quality of life has suffered. I want nothing more than to give her the freedom and comfort she deserves, and to make sure we can both keep moving forward.

[En español a continuación] This campaign gives queer folk a chance to turn an ugly negative into a shining positive, and help a lot of people along the way. You have probably heard of the "gay civil war" that broke out over the un-masked New Years Eve circuit party of gay men that was organized from the US but held in Mexico in direct violation of the local Covid regulations. Outrage quickly coalesced into multiple Instagram accounts, just one of which, @GaysOverCovid  has over 130,000 followers.  What if, instead of exporting Covid, party drugs, colonial mindedness, and mutual acrimony, we sent love and respect? And what if, instead of just expressing our anger on social media,  we funded an LGBT  soup kitchen that  serves people in dire need because of the pandemic? Such a soup kitchen, or "comedor popular," already exists in Mexico City as a pop-up, created and staffed by LGBT volunteers working at great risk to themselves. The neighborhood they serve is heavily LGBT, but of course anyone who is hungry is served. They need to rent a storefront, both for accepting food donations and to facilitate better Covid safety. $6,000 will cover storefront rent for a year. There is no overhead here. Other than the small cut taken by GoFundMe, every penny donated goes directly to the soup kitchen. If only a teeny tiny fraction of those 130,000 Instagram followers gave just $1 each, more LGBT people who are hungry will get fed every day. Surely we can do this. La zona donde está este comedor está ubicada en una zona LGBT+, pero, por supuesto se atiende a cualquier persona que tenga hambre y necesitan comer.  En este momento se están uniendo otras organizaciones LGBT+ en la ciudad de México para buscar un espacio en la zona, tanto para el almacenamiento de alimentos en el lugar como para facilitar una mejor seguridad ante el Covid. Es posible rentar un espacio para cubrir nuestras necesidades durante un año por solo US$6000. Official Navajo Nation COVID-19 Relief Fund

Please help us grow Success Stories’ feminist and transformational work inside prisons with a small donation! Success Stories is a five-year old program founded, developed and run by young men incarcerated in California. It was featured in the CNN documentary, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2018/04/18/the-feminist-on-cellblock-y-doc-orig.cnn">The Feminist on Cellblock Y</a> .  We are excited to announce that we have been partially funded to  expand into 3 new California prisons in June 2019.  We get daily requests to bring the program to prisons, jails, juvenile halls, schools, domestic violence prevention classes and youth programs across the country.  The program helps people, who experience higher risk of recidivism, prioritize the loved ones and goals most important to them through 12 sessions, each centering around a different topic such as patriarchy, love, long-term thinking and responsibility. Part of the curriculum uses a feminist framework based on work by the well-known author and theorist, bell hooks.  Success Stories participants earn time off of their sentences in California, a credit fought for and won by incarcerated people.   Please donate to support this expansion today! Each dollar you donate will go to the organization and be allocated specifically for the salary of the coaches. Each coach is formerly incarcerated and will be going into the new facilities to build self-sustaining programs in each one. They will train currently incarcerated facilitators and facilitates the sessions alongside them. The funds are currently going to and being managed by the Executive Director who will deliver all funds via check to the organizations bank account pending establishment of an EIN. Success Stories Program

ALL FUNDS RAISED OVER OUR STATED GOAL will pay for work being done on our behalf by Safer DIY Spaces to pave the way for an affordable housing developer to purchase the building and secure the long-term stability of the Vulcan community. The historic Vulcan Lofts in Oakland, CA are up for sale and nearly 200 working-class Bay Area artists are at risk of losing our homes.  In order to save the Vulcan, we’ve founded a tenant’s union, hired several attorneys, and petitioned the City of Oakland to put the building under rent control. Our hearing with the rent board is coming up very soon and we need to raise $50k in the next month to cover legal costs. The Vulcan Lofts have been an integral part of the Oakland arts community for over 30 years. Housed within a former steel foundry, the Vulcan is a central residential hub for nearly 200 low-income, working class artists and their communities. Full of visual artists, musicians, circus performers, and creatives of all stripes, the work produced at the Vulcan enriches the cultural fabric of the Bay Area and beyond on a daily basis, creating works of joy and beauty in the most rapidly gentrifying corner of America. Now, the oldest, largest, and most visible live-work community in Oakland is under threat. In late 2018, the Vulcan was put up for sale for $16M by its current owner. Following the tragedy of the Ghost Ship fire, the city of Oakland has increased its oversight on live-work spaces, putting new pressures on landlords and increasing the requirements involved when these buildings change hands. As a result, the new owner will have to spend millions of dollars on upgrades and repairs to the building. If the building is sold to a commercial developer, this expense will be passed on to its residents in the form of a staggering rent increase, putting its nearly 200 low-income artist residents at risk of mass displacement amidst California’s housing crisis. In an effort to save their home, the Vulcan’s residents have undertaken an unprecedented organizing effort to found the Vulcan Tenants Union (VTU) and secured legal representation to petition the city to place the building under rent control. But the current owner claims the building is not subject to rent control, although the place was used for residential purposes prior to laws allowing landlords to claim an exemption to rent control regulations. The VTU is fighting to officially put the building under rent control in order to avoid mass displacement, prevent the owner’s latest attempt to increase our rent, and stabilize a historic bastion of Oakland’s cultural heritage. A successful verdict may also open the door for an affordable housing developer to purchase the building, ensuring its long-term status as affordable artist housing. As the first major case of its kind following the Ghost Ship tragedy, the Vulcan will be a seminal case for other live/work spaces, creating a ripple effect that could affect hundreds of similar spaces in the city of Oakland and beyond. We are in the process of rewriting live/work history. In their fight for rent control, the VTU has enlisted the help of tenant’s rights attorneys, community organizers, and activists. DIY Safer Spaces, a local organization which arose after Ghost Ship to protect the city’s live-work residents from eviction and displacement, has generously offered a stipend to support the case. Now, the money has run out. An urgent situation has become an emergency. We need help if we are to save our homes, our community, and our way of life. In order to properly pay for the legal and paralegal fees, private investigators, inspectors, and costs of service of subpoenas, witness fees and other cost related to our rent control case, the Vulcan needs to raise $50k by March 22nd. This figure also includes funds to reduce the burden for an affordable housing developer to manage the paperwork and inspections necessary to formally evaluate the purchase of the building. This isn’t just about the Vulcan - this is about the folding of numerous artist residences and DIY spaces in Oakland, in the Bay Area, and across the nation. If we win this case, we set an example for other live/work spaces, arming them with the legal strategy they need to ensure safe and habitable conditions while continuing to not just live, but thrive. We are asking our community at large for their support to help us save the vibrant Vulcan community that contributes so much to the cultural fabric of this city. Amanda needs your support. She is determined to get her PhD while undergoing treatment, and aims to continue teaching her students while abroad at UCL during her chemotherapy. That's right, Amanda is studying abroad with cancer alone in a foreign country on Christmas. Let's talk about who she is. First and foremost, Amanda is not the type of person who would want a sad story. One came for her anyway. She is a fiercely independent, sharp and determined woman, who has always been the type who keeps focused while the world spins around her. Now she is 3,500 miles (5,500km) away from home fighting for her life while trying to achieve her academic dream of earning her PhD as an international student. Cancer has taken her ability to work. It's taken her mobility. It's drained the mind and body, and makes things difficult even with a present and engaged support network. But with the Atlantic ocean between Amanda and her family and friends back in New Haven, Connecticut - that support network is almost nonexistant at a crucial time, when it comes to meeting her everyday needs. Her parents would love to be with Amanda, but her grandfather is also sick and they are unable to leave the country due to his ailing health. Apart from her fellow UCL students and faculty, Amanda is essentially alone for the holiday season. Amanda's determined not to let cancer steal away from her the impact she hopes to make in the lives of others. She is one of those people who believes in the power of education to change lives. As long as she is able, Amanda will keep striving toward achieving her goal. However, she can't go it alone. Your donations will be going to help Amanda with daily expenses and transportation to and from the hospital and University College London. Being a broke academic is difficult without the obstacle of essentially being banned from public transportation due to immune deficiency. All of a sudden: London with no tube. London with no bus. London while too weak the hail a cab. The reality becomes a nightmare with teh harsh weather winter months and holiday season. Every dollar or pound raised for Amanda will go to making her everyday seem more manageable. Unable to work on top of her university duties, she is worried about losing her small North London apartment. The many small steps and tight spaces is not ideal for someone with cancer. Even thought she is generally limited to descending the steps only once or twice a day, it's better than not having a place to live at all. Amanda is not the type of person who looks for a handout. Cancer has a way of forcing necessity over all else. Amanda Digioia's Feck Cancer Fund

As a long time activist, I couldn't stand to do nothing during this ongoing immigration crisis. Every dollar donated here goes directly to asylum seekers to cover their basic needs.  They walked thousands of miles, they presented themselves legally to one of the most terrifying immigration processes that exists. We’ve called ICE to demand their release from horrific detention centers and then we’ve took them into our homes. Now we need your financial support to keep their cases going through the long and arduous asylum court process. A small group of bay area activists started this fundraiser to help support asylum seekers who are currently living with and being supported by us in the Bay Area.  The need for these financial resources is urgent and ongoing. Donations help cover costs of everyday items, clothes, medicine, lawyers and application fees. For example, did you know it costs about $400 to apply for a work permit as an asylum seeker? And asylum seekers must wait over 180 days before they are legally allowed to work if that permit is approved.  Your financial support goes a long way to helping these courageous individuals thrive. In her "off" time she runs Embassy Salons, the Red Vic lectures, Haight St Commons, the John Muir school project, Second Life / the Embassy Transformative Justice project.  Sadly due to circumstances with this new admistration, she doesn't have a visa to stay in the states starting in August.
