Trent Whitley-Zurcher was recently involved in a serious car accident that changed his life in an instant. While he is incredibly grateful to have survived, the accident left him with injuries that required extensive surgery. As Trent begins the long road to healing and rehabilitation, he is unable to work and faces the uncertainty of how to support his family during this challenging time.

<div>As some of you know, Oscar's had open heart surgery when he was 5 weeks old due to his heart condition Tetralogy of Fallot. He had a procedure when he was 2 weeks old to help his pulmonary stenosis which failed then at 5 weeks old, he had his first open heart surgery. Unfortunately, he was not out of the woods yet because 2 days later on Easter morning, he was going through organ failure and was blowing up like a balloon. He was put on ECMO to help clean his blood and take the load off his organs. 4 days in total he was on ECMO and, I’m glad the doctors told me this years later, babies that are on ECMO or than 2-3 days usually don’t make it. After 6 weeks in total being in the hospital, the night that Price passed was our last night at Children’s. He had lots of therapy to help recover and catch up to his average weight.

<div>He’s had many other surgeries for his ears, tonsils and put under for MRIs and a sleep study.

<div>We thought he would be in the clear when he had his apt this year, but he had such a big growth spurt, it stretched out all the work the doctors did on his heart as a baby. So, he had a sedated MRI to see how bad the damage was and if they could put off his surgery. Unfortunately, we got the news no parent wants to hear, open heart surgery again this fall. We knew this was coming but in the hopes he would be older. So, after talking with his cardiologist, we all come to an agreement to have his surgery on July 21st of this year so while he heals, he’s not in school around other people and run the chance of him getting sick. Hopefully his chest will be healed enough when he’s back at school, he can run and have fun with his friends.

<div>During this time of his surgery, Benny, his dad, and I are taking 6 weeks off to help him recover and heal at home being able to attend him around the clock. Again, another string of bad luck, we do not qualify for short term disability because we are not the ones who got hurt even if we are the caregivers, it doesn’t count. So, we are in need of help paying bills and basic needs while we are out of work. We have 4 children, Lucy (15), Jack (9), Oscar (7) and Beckett (5). This is all new for Beckett and he will have to learn to be gentle with Oscar, but this is all a repeat for the other children.

Oscar's Open Heart Surgery .... Again

<div>On the night of December 17th, Colt Olson passed away. He left behind his girlfriend Maty and their two daughters Peyton and Parker. The holiday season can be tough for anyone but I am asking if people could help this family after the tragic loss. With two young daughters and funeral costs to think of, any contributions will help this family with the loss.

My Grandma is a hardworking lady when one day her life changed dramatically. What started as just a stomach ache ended with a large clot which blocked off her entire intestines and colon. She was airlifted to the U of Minnesota and after 10 days in ICU on breathing machines she was released. You would think the story got better here but this was just the beginning of her problems getting worse. 5 days after discharge her breathing was getting more difficult and pain worsening, she went to Rice Lake ER and they didn't think there was anything to worry about and sent her home. 2 days later things were progressively getting worse and she came back to the U of M and it was here she became septic and had a perforated bowel as a result of the clot. They rushed her into surgery not sure of the outcome. 4 hours later they came out and had to remove of foot of colon and unsure of whether they could reattach. 3 surgeries later and they were able to reattach it and close part of her stomach. As strong as she is she kept positive, fighting for good outcomes. Then a week after surgery another set back. She developed a leak a complication of surgery which causes all of her stomach contents to drain out of the wound in her abdomen. So what does this mean? Doctors hope that after a year they can go back in and attempt to repair it. The next year will involve constant wound care, Feedings through her vein and countless doctors appointments. Her first new car that she bought just prior to this occurrence has to be returned just to help make sure that a little more goes towards the medical needs and bills because she will be unable to return to work. She now has been moved to a Long term Acute hospital to try to get a better handle on things and work on rehabilitation. The road is long, but my grandma is strong and I know she will continue to fight this. I am asking for any help people are willing to donate to help her with her medical bills during this difficult time.

From the time I was young I had a feeling that something about me externally was not reflecting the same way that I felt internally. As much as I tried to figure it out on my own I couldn't quite understand what that was, until I hit puberty. I spent nearly the rest of my life trying to hide, wondering why I was this way, being angry.<br /><br />When I first started looking into top surgery, it was in 1998. I went to two different surgens close to where I was living at the time, they both gave me a look like I had no idea what I was talking about. Feeling defeated, and becoming more depressed, I slowly started to disconnect myself from any and everyone, barely socializing to get by. <br />Within the past 5-7 years, I found my home in Madison, a wonderful community, and people I could actually talk to comfortably. Within this time I have truly been able to pinpoint who I am and how I feel: Masculine....not male. <br />I have selected a surgeon and the date is set in December, I have most of the cost of surgery taken care of. I'm hoping to raise enough to cover any unexpected medical costs, basic bills for the time that I have to take off work, anything that will help aid in the recovery process, etc. <br />Thank You for taking the time to read (and if possible, donate), to feel comfortable in one's own skin is something that I have not felt....ever. This is an important part for me in my own unique transition to feel complete.
