<div><strong>THE CLOCK IS TICKING: Help Me Continue This Fight</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My name is Cherise Doyley. I am a mother of four, and right now, I am fighting one of the most important battles of my life.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In 2024, while I was in labor, I experienced something no woman should ever go through. I was subjected to a court-ordered C-section under circumstances that changed my life. I was taken to court while in labor, denied an attorney, and spent over 3 hours in that hearing fighting for my life as they pushed to give me a c section against my will.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since sharing my <a href="https://www.propublica.org/article/florida-court-ordered-c-sections" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">story</a>, over 30,000 people have signed my petition, and millions have followed this journey.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>So many of you have asked: “How can I help?”
</div>
<div><em>This is how.</em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Where We Are Now</strong>
</div>
<div>Your generous support has helped me stay stable and begin this process. But we are now entering a critical phase.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There are important legal deadlines ahead, and in the coming months, significant work needs to be done to move this case forward.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>What Your Support Makes Possible</strong>
</div>
<div>Your donations help cover:
</div>
<ul>
<li>Legal and case preparation costs
</li>
<li>Expert consultations
</li>
<li>Documentation and evidence gathering
</li>
<li>Basic living expenses for me and my children during this time
</li>
</ul>
<div>This process requires time, focus, and resources... and your support makes that possible.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Why This Matters</strong>
</div>
<div>This is about more than just my story. <strong>It’s about making sure that no one else has to face something like this without support, resources, or a voice.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Getting to the Goal</strong>
</div>
<div>If just a small portion of the people who have followed and supported this journey gave even $20, we could reach this goal quickly.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>How You Can Help</strong>
</div>
<ul>
<li>Donate whatever you can
</li>
<li>Share this campaign
</li>
<li>Continue to stand with me
</li>
</ul>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Every contribution matters. Thank you for supporting me, my children, and this journey forward.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With gratitude,

Help Me Fight for Justice After a Court-Ordered C-Section

<div>On January 8, 2025, the Eaton Wildfire swept through Altadena, CA, leaving countless families devastated, including Jose Castillo and Maria Gonzalez, their two children, and their spouses. In the span of a single night, three homes belonging to this hardworking family were destroyed, along with decades of memories and dreams.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Jose and Maria immigrated to the United States from Mexico 30 years ago in search of a better life. Shortly after, they bought a small, aging house in Altadena and worked tirelessly to turn it into a home full of love and possibility. As a construction worker, Jose spent countless nights and weekends repairing and improving their home. It was the house where their children, Jose and Amy, were raised, and their dreams took root.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Over the years, Jose and Maria would go on to help their children build theirs too. They supported Jose (31) and Amy (28) in achieving the dream of homeownership, pitching in to repair and renovate the homes their children purchased. Amy and her husband, Fray, were just one month away from finishing the complete renovation of their first home when the fire struck. The home was set to welcome their first child and Maria and Jose’s grandchild, making the loss even more heartbreaking. Jose and his wife, Andrea, also lost their home to the fire, leaving the entire family without a place to call their own.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We've known Maria for over 13 years and her family embodies resilience, hard work, and love. They’ve spent decades building a life for themselves and their children, and now it’s our turn to help them. All donations will go directly toward providing immediate relief—such as clothing, food, and temporary housing—as well as helping the family take on unexpected expenses during the recovery process.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring them closer to recovering from this unimaginable loss. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign with your network can help spread the word and provide hope to a family that has lost everything.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for your kindness and generosity during this difficult time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>

<div>Spanish Translation:
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Gracias por su amabilidad y generosidad durante este momento difícil.

Help Jose and Maria's Family Recover After Eaton Fire

<div>Our family home of 22 years in Altadena has burned down and <strong>my family, Troy, Tammy, &amp; Tory Laster have literally lost EVERYTHING other than the clothes on their backs.</strong> After mandatory evacuation, there was little time to retrieve items, leaving behind all valuables and sentimental items (some of which cannot be replaced). This wasn’t just a house; it was HOME, full of love. My stepdad Troy Laster has spent a lot of time &amp; money remodeling our home to make it comfortable for the many guests &amp; family we would welcome into our home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This home is very special to us. My mom Tammy really nurtured the home, took pride in making sure the house was festive EVERY holiday (especially Christmas) as well as providing that warm HOME feeling for whomever walked through the door. From the many birthday parties, BBQ’s, graduation parties, family dinners, and holidays, a lot of happy and joyous memories were made here. Not to mention, so many accomplishments, plaques, medals, diplomas, degrees &amp; certificates we lived to achieve are gone now as well.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Praying for everyone affected by this tragedy including my family, friends, and our beautiful community of Altadena.

Laster Family Lost Everything in Eaton Canyon Fire

<div><br />
</div>
<div>Betty Gray has lived and worked in South Berkeley for over 30 years. She is a fixture of the community, and she needs our support!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Alice's Relaxing Bath and Gift Shop is a healing, afro-centric space that sells candles, bath bombs, incense, gift baskets, soaps, handmade African art, and more. The business also offers spiritual readings. I run the gift shop independently, make most of the art, and mix most of the bath products I sell. I enjoy taking the time to connect with my customers and meeting their needs with my products. The shop is quite tiny, making it easy for me to get to know every customer and let them know they are welcome and belong here.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Alice's Relaxing Bath is a place where people come and share what's going on in their world and leave feeling better than when they came in. Just knowing that I am able to be a spiritual support and service through conversations and products is a spiritual high and seeing folks feel better is my joy. With your help, I just want to continue doing this work.

Help Save Alice's Relaxing Bath

<div>On July 6th, 2024, amidst a deadly heat wave across California, we tragically lost Adrienne Boulware, affectionately known as “Twin.” Adrienne was a 47-year-old mother, grandmother, and beloved community member incarcerated at the Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF) in Chowchilla.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This fundraiser is being organized by Adrienne’s daughters, grandchildren and extended family in partnership with the California Coalition for Women Prisoners (CCWP). All donations will go directly to Adrienne’s family who urgently need funds for an independent autopsy to investigate her death, as well as for funeral services.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Despite temperatures topping 114° in California’s Central Valley, and officials urging the utmost caution with heat related illness, the prison failed to implement even the most basic heat precautions to protect people’s lives. While we grieve the heartbreaking, unexpected loss of Adrienne we continue to fight the inhumane conditions that led to her death.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please donate to support Adrienne’s four daughters and eleven grandchildren, and share this fundraiser far and wide.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Note: Paying a “tip” to GoFundMe will not go to the family, so feel free to slide that tip amount to $0.

Support Adrienne’s Family After Her Preventable Death

<div><strong>I've been free since June, 2023, but I still have pressing needs...</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I did 18 years in prison - 16 on Ohio's death row - for the death of a child - <strong>an awful tragedy that turned out to be an accident - not a murder.</strong> The case details and why I was freed are below. A news report is <a href="https://youtu.be/I75TXiOhsEM" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As a recently released former prisoner, I need money for rent, utilities, food, clothing, furniture, transportation, and physical and mental health support. My family never wavered in supporting me. Since getting out, I have found my own space to live. I had a job working in a warehouse, but due to poor medical care in prison, a knee injury limits the type of jobs I can perform. I am grateful to be going in for knee replacement surgery this week (4/23/24).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Imagine coming home after nearly two decades in prison. </strong>There are so many changes and challenges in adapting to this new chapter in my life. I have no savings, and every day existence has left me with pressing financial responsibilities and no real way to heal the wounds inflicted by my wrongful conviction and 18 years in prison. I am grateful for potential work, and I would love to have a position where I can help others. Right now I still need help getting on my feet. I am grateful for any support you can offer.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>The Legal Story</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In 2006, the 3-year-old son of girlfriend tragically died after falling down a flight of stairs while I was in another part of the house with my baby sister. Police and prosecutors did not believe me when I explained the accident and sought the death penalty against him. They convicted me of rape and murder in 2007 and sent me to death row. Then, in April of 2023, the prosecutors agreed that my convictions and death sentence should be overturned! After entering a plea to child endangerment and involuntary manslaughter to obtain my freedom, I was given a time-served sentence and walked out of jail on June 15, 2023.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Having gone through so many twists and turns in the courts, my case is complicated. But here is a short summary. My convictions were in large part due to the testimony of a coroner who ruled the death a homicide and found rectal injuries she thought were intentionally inflicted. My appellate lawyers discovered that the coroner had not considered all of the relevant evidence. When they shared this evidence with her, she changed her official opinion. Once she saw photographs of the scene and staircase, she determined that what I said about the fall down the stairs was consistent with the injuries sustained, meaning she considered the cause of death not to be homicide. Also, after seeing medical records showing hospital staff made three unsuccessful attempts to take a temperature with a rectal thermometer – which matched up exactly with the three rectal puncture wounds she had discovered during her autopsy – she testified that these injuries were inflicted in the ER, not by my dad. Two other doctors who reviewed the records agreed that no rape occurred and the injuries were consistent with an accidental fall down the stairs.

18 Years - Innocent on Ohio's Death Row

<div>We are reaching out for your support of CRC's Black Oakland Anti-Displacement Housing Fund. The Fund will be used to assist low-income Black residents of Oakland to purchase their homes to prevent displacement.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Once a home is purchased with assistance of the Fund, it will be permanently preserved as affordable housing for low-income Black Oaklanders through an affordable housing deed restriction recorded against the home that
</div>
<div>will require resale to eligible low-income purchasers.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The Fund will allow assisted homebuyers to build wealth in their home but prevent real estate speculators from pricing low-income Oakland residents out of our city.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The fund is designed to address situations such as that faced by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=988268409099233" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Leslie Lewis</a>, who became a tenant in the home he was born in after his family lost ownership of the property through a predatory foreclosure. Since becoming a tenant, Mr. Lewis has had to fight 11 different eviction attempts by various speculators trying to flip the house. With assistance from the Fund and a loan from Guild Mortgage, Lewis is in the process of purchasing his life-long home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Your generous donation to the Fund can help sustain the social fabric of Oakland. $65,000 is needed to close on Mr. Lewis' home by May 30th. Any funds raised beyond $65,000 will go into Black Oakland Anti-Displacement Housing Fund to support future campaigns.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Your donations may entitle you to a tax deduction. Please check with your tax professional.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you would like to send a check:
</div>
<div>Checks should be made out to Affect Real Change, with "Anti-Displacement Housing Fund" in the memo, and sent to 1431 Center Street, Unit 205, Oakland, CA 94607.

<div>In 2022 Tinu, a devoted advocate and volunteer for Black women and disabled people, was hospitalized with COVID pneumonia which led to a resurfacing of her cancer. She also now has Long COVID &amp; MEcfs.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>As a high-risk person, she and her family need our help: cancer is expensive, and without her income this month while she is in the hospital, she and her household need financial support. Hospital stays and cancer care are expensive—please help her.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Also, please help advocate for and enact public health policies that center the people who are most impacted by and high risk for COVID, especially people like Tinu. As Tinu writes, if you would wear a ribbon for a cancer patient, you should be wearing a Mask for Everyone.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Please share this fundraiser with the hashtag #ForTinu

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>For more frequent, live updates on Tinu's health see this page:

<div><a href="https://twitter.com/Tinu?pinned=gfm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tinu's live updates</a>.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Every month, Tinu needs:

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<ul>

<li>$2000/$3500 for material support (rent/groceries mortgage.) That's less her steady monthly income.

</li>

<li>$500 per infusion ( typically no more than two) copay

</li>

<li>20% of medical bills (the rest is covered by insurance, ranges from $2K to $8k)
</li>

</ul>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>With about $500 a month from book sales and $1500 month from her membership site, this leaves a huge gap.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>She can no longer do virtual speaking/workshop bookings consistently to make up the difference that ranges from $7K to $12K per month.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Even the visibility she has to maintain in order for fundraising to come in has become a 40 hour a week to be seen. She can't stop doing it until she reaches her monthly goal, yet is makes her more sick, erasing much of the treatments work.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>She is still doing community and helping other people with their mutual aid one day a week despite this. Please help her return to her work for her beloved community.

Help an activist survive cancer & long covid

<p>My name is LaMonté Ford, I’m 51 years old, and I’ve been living in my RV in West Oakland since my longterm community was displaced by the City of Oakland last year. I was born and raised in Oakland and I’d like to stay here, if possible.
</p>
<p>This might be a bit much butI would appreciate your help in fundraising to buy a starter for recent purchased vehicle. I bought something that runs so I can move around and not be evicted by the city. It ran great for three days and guess what... the starter goes out. The starter cost 240 plus tax and I'm looking to raise just that amount. I still live with my two dogs, Rosie and Coco, whom I love very much. And I always try my best to be a good neighbor.
</p><br />
<p>Thank you for the support.

<div><strong>UPDATE 9/21/24:</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Dear Friends and Supporters,
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share my current situation and seek your kind assistance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since my deportation from the USA to Jordan, I have been unable to leave the country. I have been striving to improve my living situation by seeking opportunities to relocate, but the process has been prolonged and challenging.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As time passes, my financial resources are depleting, and I am now facing difficulties in sustaining myself. I am reaching out to those who understand and empathize with my situation, asking for your support to help me get through this period until I am able to leave Jordan.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I would like to add that the money I raised earlier is still available in the bank and will not be touched, as it is reserved for the purpose of relocating and settling in a new place.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Any assistance you can provide, whether financial or otherwise, would be greatly appreciated. Your generosity will make a significant difference in my life and help me move towards a better future.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please donate to my GoFundMe here: <a href="https://gofund.me/0bc80aba" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://gofund.me/0bc80aba</a>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for your understanding and support.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Sincerely,
</div>
<div>Ahmad Issa
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>****
</div>
<div>Imagine being isolated from the world for 22 years, and coming back into freedom with nothing but the clothes on your body with which to resume life. What would YOU do? Could you use a hand up? That is what this is about.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Ahmad has many needs to re-establish his life, but he most wants to be self-sufficient. Ahmad is a Palestinian man who survived 22 years on Ohio's death row for a crime another man confessed to. He had to take a plea to a lesser offense and be sentenced to time served in order to avoid facing the possibility of a second wrongful conviction. Ahmad was deported to Jordan just before the pandemic, has struggled to find meaningful and sustaining work, and hopes now to emigrate back to North America.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The Story:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Ahmad Issa spent 22 years incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. Most of that time was spent on Ohio's death row. Now he is free but without many resources, and living in a country he hardly knows and hasn't been to for 30 years.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In 2018, Ahmad's conviction and death sentence were thrown out and the state was ordered to give him a new and fair trial. As often happens in cases such as this, prosecutors threatened him with another trial and the possibility of returning to death row. This is not an uncommon practice. Prosecutors use it to keep from having admit a mistake.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>However, prosecutors gave Ahmad an option: Plead guilty to a (much) lesser offense, be sentenced to time already served, and be freed immediately. Even though the actual killer admitted to the crime and is serving a sentence of life without the possibility of parole, as a Muslim immigrant in the current atmosphere, Ahmad chose not take any chances with another Hamilton County jury.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Ahmad agreed to that offer, but because he was not a US citizen he also had to agree to be immediately deported to his home country of Jordan.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>There was one other catch:</strong> Because Ahmad agreed to plea guilty to a lesser offense, he would not be formally exonerated, and therefore he is not eligible for any compensation from the State of Ohio. Will you help Ahmad raise the start-up funds he needs to go into business for himself?
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Ahmad Issa now lives with his brother in Zarqa, Jordan, just outside of Amman. He continues to look for work that will sustain him, but in the era of COVID-19 he has not been successful. Ahmad knows he has what it takes to go into business for himself as an Uber driver, and he hopes to raise enough money to buy a vehicle and take care of other basic necessities of life. Please help!

Palestinian Man Survived 22 years on Ohio's Death Row...

<div>GREAT NEWS! Finally, a lawyer has agreed to help Derrick Jamison get the apology and compensation that the State of Ohio owes him for 20 years on Ohio's death row for a crime they knew he did not commit.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>BAD NEWS! It could be months or even years until Derrick's new lawyer is able to muscle through the red tape the state of Ohio puts in the way of a wrongly convicted and exonerated former prisoner.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>GOOD NEWS: A community has come together around Derrick, helping him get out of the fleabag hotel he was living at in Tampa, Florida, moving him home to Cincinnati, and helping him re-establish Ohio residency, get medical and dental treatment, and best of all, find an attorney willing to help him force Ohio to compensate him.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>BAD NEWS: Derrick still has rent, food, utility and all of the rest of the costs of every-day life.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Derrick Jamison is one of the sweetest men you could ever meet, and he needs our help. Derrick survived 20 years on Ohio's death row for a crime he had nothing to do with. Derrick has been free since 2005, but he never was able to receive compensation from the state of Ohio.
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>Now Derrick is getting old, and he's not in the greatest of health. He's been living in a hotel room in Tampa. A group of friends and advocates have come together to help Derrick move back to Ohio and set him up in a sustainable situation so he can have the support of family and friends and a decent place to call home in what should be his "retirement" years.

<div>Here's what I want to say about Rodrick Reed. He shows up, not just for his innocent brother on Texas death row, but for both the innocent and the guilty. Recently (March 6, 2023), Rodrick stood in protest with us outside the Walls Unit in Huntsville when a guilty man was being executed. Last year when Melissa Lucio was facing a very real execution date, Rodrick showed up repeatedly to help bring attention to that case.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Now Rodrick needs our help. </strong>The everyday struggle of living on the edge of extreme poverty is very real. Everything costs more when you are poor. Every unexpected car repair or phone snafu or whatever just piles on. And for Rodrick, his vehicle and phone are the things that makes it possible to work.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In speaking with Rodrick when we set this up in March 2023, we decided to set a fundraising goal that will help him get stable. There are immediate needs, and then there is the unexpected. I know times are tight for many of us, but if you know Rodrick, and if you know of his brother <a href="https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/rodney-reed-is-innocent-free-him-now" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rodney Reed</a> , please help today.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you don't want to have servicing charges taken from what you chip in here, consider sending funds to Rodrick directly via his Cashapp: $fifthsondog.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you.

<div>NOTE: This fundraiser is independent of the organization I run, <a href="https://deathpenaltyaction.org/the-people-vs-the-death-penalty-film-series/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Death Penalty Action</a> - I'm just trying to show up for a guy who shows up for others in the struggle we all share to stop executions and abolish the death penalty.

Stop The Spiral: Rodrick Reed Needs Our Help

My name is Sabrina Van Tassel, I directed a documentary about Melissa Lucio called “The State of Texas Vs Melissa.” The documentary was released on HULU in 2021, and millions of people saw it. Many asked how they could help.<br /><br /> I created this GoFundMe page to support Melissa and her family members who are actively working for her freedom, and to help bring awareness to her case. Melissa and I are grateful for the many people who donated to the previous GoFundMe. We shut that page down after Melissa got her stay, nearly two years ago. We had no idea she would still be in prison nearly two years later, and that is why we have started this new page.
<br /><br /> I am in direct contact with Melissa and have been helping her for years. Only people on her visitation list can send funds to her, as required by the prison (TDCJ), and I am one of them. Melissa needs funds for hygiene items, ink for her typewriter, paper, stamps, decent food... to make her life tolerable. Writing is her only way of communicating with the outside world and she has very few visits since her family lives so far away. Remember she has mostly been alone 24 hrs a day with nearly no human contact for over 15 years!

Now we need to start raising our voices again.<br /><br /> This fundraiser will help cover the costs of doing so. We need to help Melissa's family members continue to visit her and be active in the campaign. Cameron County is 8 hours away from the prison, so it is a long and expensive trip. <br /><br />We also want to be able to cover the costs of raising awareness and calling the public to action once again. We have local organizers who are raising awareness again right now in Cameron County, and we plan to take that effort to the rest of the world if need be. Most important, we must be ready to help Melissa resume her life in freedom when she is finally released. I believe she will soon be freed!<br /><br /> <b>BACKGROUND</b>

In 2008, Melissa became the first Latina woman sentenced to death in Texas. From the moment of her arrest, she has steadfastly maintained her innocence. Melissa Lucio has spent over 15 years on death row for the alleged murder of her two-year-old daughter Mariah. We now know there was no murder. The film tells that story.

Melissa's case raises many questions: no one ever saw her being violent towards any of her children, some of the kids saw Mariah fall down a flight of stairs and weren't allowed to testify at trial, her court appointed attorney willingly set aside evidence that could have dramatically changed the outcome and the District Attorney who used her case to be re-elected and was then sent to prison with a 13 year prison sentence for extortion and bribery.

In July 2019, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned her conviction and found Lucio’s right to a “complete defense” had been violated in her original trial.<br /><br /> In February 2021, a sharply divided en banc Fifth Circuit reversed the 2019 grant of relief by a vote of 10 to 7, reinstating her conviction and death sentence. Melissa’s hope for exoneration and freedom was then with the U.S. Supreme Court.<br /><br /> In November, 2021, they refused to hear the case.

On Friday January 13, 2022, Cameron County set an execution date for Melissa Lucio. Immediately, working with Death Penalty Action, I traveled with Melissa's son John and other family members all over Texas, making sure people knew that the State of Texas planned to execute an innocent woman. It was because the world was able to access her story through the film that, together with Death Penalty Action and The Innocence Project, we were able to create enough pressure that the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals halted Melissa's execution just two days before it was to happen. <br /><br />The Court ordered an evidentiary hearing to examine the evidence of Melissa's innocence, and we are all still waiting for that to happen. Melissa has been waiting nearly two years, and that is two years too long!

This is the official GoFundMe page to help Melissa Lucio and help shed light to her egregious miscarriage of justice. You may also visit her web page at FreeMelissaLucio.org, which is run by DeathPenaltyAction.org. Please click here to add your name to the e-mail list.

Below is Melissa’s contact info. Please send her a letter or an email through JPay/Securus. She would love to know how many are here for her after 15 years of solitary confinement!!!<br /><br /><b> Melissa Elizabeth Lucio <br /> Mountain view unit <br /> TDJC# 999537

<div>Hello my name is Sophina Jones and I am a parent of three beautiful daughters. I am also a strong parent leader and advocate at the only Spanish immersion public school in Berkeley called Sylvia Mendez Elementary. For the last year, I have been organizing the first (of which I hope there are many) Spanish immersion trips for African American children learning Spanish. We have raised $20,000 to send 6 African American students to Costa Rica this Spring Break 2024. The trip will be monumental for these students as they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the language and culture and create life-long memories. Our goal is that this opportunity comes available as an annual trip for students at Berkeley Unified.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>One of the students who is supposed to be on this trip is named Sage. She is a 2nd grader at Sylvia Mendez. Sage and her mother, Shatae Deckard, were the first family to sign up for this trip. But tragedy hit our community on September 19, 2023, when Shatae was in a fatal car accident on the I-580 freeway.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Sage’s father, John, now the sole parent to this beautiful little lady, is reluctant to send his daughter on this trip without a parent.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Now, we're in a bind. The trip operators will not refund Sage's ticket and will not transfer it to another student. Not only would we lose out on over $3,500 that we have raised, but Sage will not have the opportunity to experience this trip...the experience that her mother, Shatae, wanted so badly for her daughter.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>John would never ask to help with this wish on his own. He wanted to come up with the funds himself, but with the time constraints, it is impossible to do so...and he would love to give this gift to his daughter.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I am reaching out to the community on behalf of John to ask for assistance on behalf of John and Sage. We need to raise $3,729 and $145 in late fees totally approx 3,800. of the month to be able to add John to the trip. I am the tour leader and will need to pay the trip directly the fees raised. Any amount is so helpful and gets us closer to getting both John and Sage on this trip and Ms. Shatae would be so happy to know her baby girl got this amazing opportunity.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Gracias!

</div>
<div>Thank you for signing <a href="https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/theres-no-evidence-bring-kevin-home/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kevin Keith's petition</a> to help free him from his wrongful conviction.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Update: On August 15, 2023, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals announced its decision denying Keith relief.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Kethledge, J. delivered the opinion of the Court in which Siler, J. joined in full:
</div>
<div>"We thus agree with our concurring colleagues only the evidence at trial and the new evidence relied upon by Keith post - trial - - that Keith cannot show that every reasonable juror would have reasonable doubt about his guilt. Considering that evidence alone, rather, we think that only some - - and perhaps most - - jurors likely would find reasonable doubt."
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In furtherance, Helene, N. White, Circuit Judge, concurring in part: " I concur in the judgement because I agree that Petitioner Kevin Keith fails to clear the exceedingly high bar of 28 U.S.C. 2244 (b)(2)(B)(ii). There is no question that Keith would have had a better chance of acquittal had the Brady material been known to his defense.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In other words, or in laymen terms: What the judges meant above is that there is INDEED issue with the evidence in Keith's case (enough!), in that "some - - and perhaps most - - jurors likely would find reasonable doubt" in Keith's case.
</div>
<div>Particularly, as pointed out by Justice White, Keith would've had a better chance of acquittal had the Brady material been known to Keith's defense."
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Governor DeWine is still considering Kevin's request for executive clemency, and that decision could happen at any time, although it seems unlikely while litigation continues.
</div>
<div>And so, we wait.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Meanwhile, Kevin calls every so often to say hello, and in the past week he asked for support in two specific ways:</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<ul>
<li>Kevin has some documents he wants to mail to members of the media across the country about his innocence, and needs help with funds for postage.
</li>
<li>Kevin hopes that his supporters might chip in to help him order some special birthday and holiday foods.
</li>
</ul>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Kevin's family wants to help, and yet they continue to struggle with limited income and all of the direct effects of poverty. If you are able to support Kevin's family and help them support Kevin's requests at this time, please donate on this page.
</div>

<div><strong>BACKGROUND</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Charles Kieth's trajectory was on the rise. He was in college with dreams of being a psychologist. Then one day while roll call was being taken in a class, someone heard his name and asked, "Are you related to that guy that was just arrested for those murders in Bucyrus?"
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>That was more than 30 years ago. Charles left school to go help his brother, Kevin Keith, who was wrongly convicted and sentenced to death for a crime he had nothing to do with. (<a href="https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/theres-no-evidence-bring-kevin-home" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">See case information and sign the petition</a> .)
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>BUT, having not finished college, and with Charle's life being consumed in the decades-long effort to free his brother, Charles continues to live close to the poverty line. At this writing, Charles does not have a dependable vehicle and he lives with his mother. Charles works part-time for Death Penalty Action, but that organization can only pay him so much, and he needs a significant cash infusion to allow him to establish himself anew.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The goal of this GoFundMe is to give Charles Keith ad his family the necessary funding to cover ongoing needs and also support their loved one in prison.

<div>UPDATED MARCH 22, 2026

<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thanks for your past support for Rodney Reed, who continues to fight for his innocence and to free himself from Texas death row.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Rodney's brother Rodrick called this evening to share that he is taking a few days off from work to support his and Rodney's mom, Sandra Reed, as she has another surgery and then recovers at home. Rodrick asks that you keep her in your thoughts and/or prayers for a speedy and full recovery.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Rodrick does not have paid time off, so every day he is not working is a hit on his day to day living expenses. If you are able to help relieve some of the pressure, please chip in on this GoFundMe. *NOTE: this is an older GoFundMe, so while the counter shows that money has been raised, that is long-gone. Please help (again) if you are able. Thanks!

</div>
<div>UPDATED DECEMBER 2, 2024
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Today is Sandra Reed's birthday. She has not had an in-person visit with her son Rodney on Texas death row for nearly a year. Rodey asked her to come visit for her birthday, but they could not get a reservation to visit until tomorrow (Dec 3), so tomorrow, Tuesday, Rodrick and Sandra are heading to Livingston, Texas to visit Rodney.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please share some love with Rodney, Sandra and Rodrick and their family by keeping them in your prayers for safe travels, and for FREEDOM for Rodney very soon. And if you can pitch in for some gas money or a meal or some foods they can leave for Rodney to get himself some decent food for a holiday meal, please do!
