Cancer is a growing global health challenge. People living in low- and middle-income countries are disproportionately affected, often receiving a diagnosis at a later stage and facing greater barriers to treatment. More than one-third of cancers can be prevented through changes in lifestyle and behaviour. When prevention is not possible, early detection can significantly improve outcomes—even in communities where access to treatment is limited. By strengthening knowledge and skills within the healthcare workforce, we can offer hope to people affected by cancer. Over the past five years, healthcare colleagues from England, Kenya and Uganda have worked in partnership to improve cancer prevention, early detection and care. Previous work in the UK and Kenya was supported by government funding. However, reductions in international humanitarian funding mean that grants are no longer available to support the next stage of the programme in Uganda. Our team is committed to leaving no partner behind. We are raising funds to deliver cancer education and training to four healthcare workforces across four areas of Uganda in November 2026. Donations will help cover: Healthcare workers’ attendance costs Training delivery and educational resources Venue hire Refreshments and other essential expenses All funds will be managed and governed by the Ugandan UK Nursing and Midwifery Association, helping to ensure appropriate oversight and accountability. Alison’s 10-Mile Sponsored Swim To launch our fundraising campaign, Alison, the UK Global Health Project Lead, will undertake a sponsored 10-mile swim on 13 September 2026, at the Waterside Hotel , Didsbury from 7am - 14:00 Every donation, whatever its size, will help healthcare professionals develop the skills and confidence they need to prevent cancer, recognise it earlier and support people affected by the disease.
