What they care about

My name is Comfort Dondo, and I grew up in Zimbabwe. Education and books played an important role in my own journey, helping me and now I want to give back.

Books carried me across an ocean. Now I am carrying books home. I grew up in Zimbabwe believing in the power of education. Books opened my mind, expanded my dreams, and eventually helped create a pathway for me to study in the United States. This year, through Books For Africa and the generosity of a well-wisher, we secured 45,000 books and 1,500 solar lights for children in Zimbabwe. This October, we plan to distribute them to 14 schools and communities across Zimbabwe, including rural areas where children may have limited access to books and reliable electricity. For a child, a book can open a world. And for a child studying in a home without reliable electricity, a solar light can mean one more hour to read, complete homework, prepare for an examination, and dream. The books are here. Now we need to get them into children’s hands. We are raising $7,700 to help cover transportation, distribution, storage, fuel, loading, and delivery across Zimbabwe. Would you help us carry these books the final miles? $25 helps move books closer to a rural school. $50 helps support transportation and distribution. $100 helps deliver books and solar lights farther across Zimbabwe. $250+ helps us reach entire school communities. No gift is too small. I know personally what can happen when a child is given access to education. Someone once invested in my future. Today, I have the privilege of giving back. 45,000 books. 1,500 solar lights. 14 communities. One goal: putting opportunity into the hands of Zimbabwe’s children. Please give, share, and help us bring these books home. —
