Police Officer and Combat Marine Veteran- Grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme.  Stephen Grogan is fighting a battle for his life. Diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) in July of 2017 after complaining of headaches.  He was able to have a successful total resection of his tumor followed by radiation therapy and chemotherapy. His last maintenance MRI 1/07/2019 they found a new tumor. The tumor is located inside his corpus callosum in both left and right hemispheres of his brain. He has been given a diagnosis of less than a year. Because of the location of his tumor he is not eligible for surgery or a gamma knife procedure and now has to depend on a clinical trial to save his life.  Stephen is a US Marine  Combat Veteran (2007-2014), Pensacola City Police Officer (2016-present) and most importantly a husband and father. Stephen is married to the love of his life Christina who is also a Combat Marine Veteran (2007-2014) and is studying to become a RN, they also have two adorable little boys Tristan (4) and Camden (1).  Since hearing this news they are worried about finances. They are applying for trials located at Duke University in North Carolina, but are worried about costs that they will incur. They also would like to take a family trip to Disney World to make lasting memories.  The Grogan family deserves to not worry about finances to be able to fight this disease and to enjoy the precious moments they have left. Stephen and Christina, have both put their lives on the line and fought for our country.  Stephen continues to serve the community by being a local police officer. Stephen has given so much, it is now our turn to give to him and his family.  Thank you all so much! I will update as more information is given. Every little bit helps.

Teddy Bear Highway was brought into our practice after being hit by a car early this morning on I75 near Micanopy Florida. We have been unable to locate his owners at this time and for his best chance at surviving his injuries, he needs to go to surgery right now. We are needing to cover his medical expenses which are estimated at $7500. This does include his current treatment, surgery and short time follow up care.  Please share and lets try to get Highway to surgery. "Teddy Bear Highway" Emergency Medical Fund

I love that we keep having to up the end goal. God bless each and every one of you. I know the class appreciates all the efforts being made and I know the family will as well. The class has decided to up the amount one more time. Let's keep it going. I tried to go through and send out Thank Yous to everyone but it was hard. Just to let everyone know, every donation is appreciated more than anything.  The original goal set fourth was $3,000. We easily met that goal. We have increased the goal to $5,000. We all know how expensive things can be. Keep up the awesome work and GOD BLESS EVERYONE! As many know Okaloosa County lost a beloved deputy, Bill Myers. Myers had been a part of the department since 1989 and had retired in 2013. In January of this year he returned on a part-time basis to assit with Civil Process. He returned in hopes to save enough money to send his children and grandchildren to Disney. In memory of Bill, The fall 2015 EMT class at NWFSC, has set up a go fund me page to make sure Bill's wishes come true and that his family makes it to Disney. His son Shaun is an instructor within the public safety building at NWFSC and within the EMS department. All the proceeds collected through this gofundme page and other attempts will go straight to the Myers family. Officer Anderson responded and made a traffic stop on a vehicle that fled the area. Officer Anderson approached the driver's side of the vehicle and as he did, a passenger bailed from the car and started running. As Officer Anderson crossed the front of the car to pursue that fleeing suspect, the driver of the car ran him down. After he was struck by the fleeing vehicle, Officer Anderson managed to discharge his weapon. <img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/5315731_1437074411.2058_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /> Officer Anderson lay in the street for 30 seconds, until a good Samaritan blocked him from oncoming traffic and other OPD Officers responded.  The 17-year-old driver has been charged with attempted murder of a Law Enforcement Officer. Officer Anderson has been a committed member of the Orlando Police Department for eight years as a member of the field training unit, downtown bike unit and has cross-trained in motors. Officer Anderson's greatest love is his family; wife Jessica and 18-month-old daughter, Abby. In fact, he recently was contemplating leaving the force to care full-time for Abby, who suffers from a serious seizure disorder. Due to the serious injuries Officer Anderson sustained, he has been transferred to a specialized hospital in Gainesville, listed in serious condition. Officer Will Anderson Support Fund

My name is Justin and my wife is April.  Our Daughter Brie has severe heart defects requiring several surgeries.  She also has a genetic chromosome deletion called 22q.11 or Di George Syndrome.  In addition to her heart surgeries, she will face many other challenges related to her 22q.  The cost of Brie’s care is quite large as you can imagine and many things are not covered by insurance.  Any donations would greatly be appreciated.  Our go fund me page was originally started by our friend Demetrica.  Thanks so much to her and so many other friend for their continued support.<img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/2904799_1420221101.4474_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" />  This is our story: We gave birth to our beautiful daughter Brie on December 19, 2014 which was just a few hours past her due date.  She was just under 6 pounds.  We were overjoyed, exhausted and overwhelmed this being our first child.  A few hours after her birth, family began to gather.  This is when things quickly began to change.  Brie began choking on fluid and turned blue.  The nurse took her from us to the hospitals NICU.  There they suctioned her, gave her oxygen and started an IV.  They also ran a chest scan.  The doctor informed me that the scan was abnormal.  The scan was sent for further review.  A short time later the doctor told us that her heart was not normal and she would need to be transferred to Shands at the Univ. of Florida.  Our little girl was going to get her first ambulance ride and she wasn't even a day old.  I followed the ambulance to Shands.  The rest of our families stayed with my wife April who was in the process of being discharged.  My wife and are families joined me at the hospital about an hour later.  April and I were able to have some time with Brie before the doctors brought into a room for a conference.  The doctors told us that Brie did not have a pulmonary artery (Pulmonary Atresia), was missing a valve going from the pulmonary artery to the heart, had a hole between the chambers of her heart (Vetricular Septal Defect), and MAPCAS (Major Aorto-Pulmonary Collateral Arteries).  She has 5 small MAPCAS which run between her heart and lungs.  The doctors told us that there was a 50% chance that the she could have 22q.11 syndrome.  We had never heard of 22q.  The doctors gave a brief overview. We were told that she would have developmental delays and have learning disabilities.  We were told she would need several surgeries.  They said that there was a chance that she would not be a candidate for surgery and would possibly need a heart and lung transplant.  We were devastated by all that our little girl was facing.  To be quite honest we were overwhelmed by what we were facing as well.  After crying and crying, my wife and I met with our families and explained to them what we had been told.  We returned and spent time with our little girl Brie. This was our experience on are first day as a new family. This is a brief summary of what has occurred since.  So far we have been lucky in that her oxygen levels have been stable enough that she has not needed immediate surgery.  We are being told that she will probably have her first open heart surgery between 1 and 1.5 years of age. Brie spent about 2 weeks in NICU before we could bring her home.  We would have to keep an eye on her heart using a monitor which measures her heart rate and oxygen saturation.  At about 2 months old she had a heart catheterization to better understand what her heart looked like.  She was intubated for the procedure and was hospitalized for 5 days.  The doctors said she will need 3 open heart surgeries and several more less evasive surgeries if all goes as planned.  They also confirmed that she had 22q.11 / DiGeorge syndrome.  This was a very difficult time for Me and April.  One of our biggest difficulties has been feeding Brie.  She was not eating as much as she need to because she tires easily.  Her 22q also affects her ability to digest and hold food down.  When Brie was about 6 months old she had a G-tube (feeding tube) put in to help her gain weight.  She was intubated again and was in the hospital for 5 days.  Since the G-Tube was put in she has gained much more weight.  She currently is about 15 pounds.  The doctors said they would like her to between 16-20 pounds before they do her first surgery.  We currently see her many doctors monthly (She has about 8).  Brie also attends physical therapy to help strengthen her.

Support For Baby Brie

In May of ’95, at the age of 15, Justin began to experience double vision. After consulting with doctors and going through several pairs of glasses, the double vision worsened. An MRI was taken of his brain and Justin was diagnosed with <a href="http://www.webmd.com/brain/chiari-malformation-symptoms-types-treatment" target="_blank">Arnold Chiari Malformation</a> . Being from a small town, Justin found that every local neurosurgeon declined to touch his case. Eventually Justin and his family would find themselves at <a href="http://www.thebarrow.org/index.htm" target="_blank">Barrow Neurological Institute</a> in Phoenix, AZ. After a consultation with a team of doctors, Justin was told that there was a possibility to correct the problems with surgery, with a real risk that he may never walk, talk, or swallow normally again. A decision not to have the surgery would leave Justin with a life expectancy of 6 months to 5 years. Justin and his family made the decision to go ahead with the surgery and Dr. Volker Sontag and his medical team would perform 2 surgeries, each lasting 8 hours, to correct the problem. Justin would spend 18 days in ICU and another 2 months in the hospital recovering. Justin overcame the odds and not only walked and talked, he went on to accomplish and complete several life goals. In 2001 Justin would graduate from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University  with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science. In January of 2003 the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/GainesvillePolice" target="_blank">Gainesville Police Department</a>  hired Justin and sponsored him through the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/sfcips?rf=152235561455771" target="_blank">police academy</a> . A few months later, Justin was patrolling the streets of Gainesville, FL. In his spare time, Justin worked relentlessly on completing his flight ratings in commercial single engine, multi-engine, instrument for fixed wing, commercial rotorcraft and instrument for helicopter. Justin would become one of the full time helicopter pilots for the Gainesville Police Department and Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Joint Aviation unit (“Air 1”) watching over his fellow men and women in blue and green. In October 2013, Justin married his sweetheart, Heaven Dawn and they have a son, Jax. On January 7, 2015 while attempting to land at an off airport site in Panama City, FL, the double vision returned and during flight Justin lost all depth perception making landing impossible. Justin handed off the controls to his co-pilot to make the landing. The following day, Justin went to an ophthalmologist and the doctor told him that he needed a neurological consult immediately. Another MRI was done Shands at UF. It was confirmed that Justin’s vision issues were again related to Arnold Chiari Malformation and that surgical intervention was needed. Top neurologists at Shands at UF were consulted, and it was decided that it was best if Justin returned to Phoenix for treatment. Once in Phoenix, it was determined that another surgery could be done, although riskier and more difficult than the first surgery 20 years ago. He was told that his career both as a GPD officer and a helicopter pilot may be over. This fund was created by Justin’s friends to support the costs related to the extended stay in Arizona, and as Justin will soon run out of vacation hours at the Gainesville Police Department, to supplement the possible loss of income. Please help Justin’s family focus only on the treatment, so that he may return to our Gainesville skies. Your help is truly appreciated!

Bravest Face for Justin Poirot

Yvonne and Mike met over 20yrs ago and dated for a whirlwind summer that ended way too soon. Life stepped in and took them different directions. Mike went to south Florida to start his law enforcement career and Yvonne went out to the Florida panhandle and finished her teaching degree. They both married and had children and led relatively normal lives by most standards. Three and a half years ago, fate brought them back together, older, wiser, more mature and much more able to appreciate what each of them brought to the table. Each of them were picking up the pieces of broken and divorced homes and each had a set of 17 and 13 yr old children to look out for. They reconnected by chance and took a gamble at pursuing the relationship that had lingered in both of their minds over the years to see if it really could be everything that they imagined that it might have been. The relationship took on a life of it's own and they wed July 7th, 2012. Yvonne has been teaching for 15 yrs, the first thirteen as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher and the last 2 yrs as an art teacher for all elementary school grades. Mike has been in law enforcement since 1989 and has been with the Gainesville Police Department over 20 yrs. In July of 2014, Yvonne began experiencing fatigue and pain in her joints. She also began waking at night short of breath and gasping for air. Yvonne suffers from a heart condition, Tachacardia, which she has effectively treated with medication for years. Yvonne went to her physician about the fatigue and shortness of breath and was told it was a normal part of her condition and that she should get more rest. In September, she broke out in a rash that 3 doctors later would later be diagnosed as Granuloma Anullare. The condition, although unsightly and uncomfortable, is in itself harmless, but is usually a manifestation of a bigger issue. An infectious disease specialist has ruled out a multitude of possible causes for the rash outbreak, however there are still a number of things that may have caused this, including lung cancer. CT and PET scans revealed that Yvonne has "abnormalities" on both lungs. The only way to know for certain what these abnormalities are, is to perform a biopsy on the spots in her lungs. A very invasive surgery has been scheduled Nov. 6th in which they will conduct open body/open lung surgery to go into the right lung and remove a "wedge" of the lung that is large enough to take out all of the abnormality. They will leave Yvonne on the operating table while they perform the biopsy. If it is cancer they will go back in and remove the lower lobe of her right lung and also her lymph nodes. If it is not cancer then they will conduct a multitude of test on the sample to find out exactly what it is. This surgery is just the tip of the iceberg. It is just the beginning of finding out the what, where and how's of dealing with this. There may be chemo, radiation and additional surgeries, as we still have to find out about the other lung. This has all put Yvonne and Mike in a situation of financial worry and stress. Yvonne is expected to be out of work for at least 3-4 weeks. Yvonne's youngest son has had chronic medical conditions that have depleted her leave account, as she has had to stay home with him off and on for years. She now has only a week of leave and this will leave the family short at least 2 pay checks as she recovers, with the holidays quickly approaching. As you can imagine, the doctor's bills are starting to arrive and the total will begin to rise quickly as things move forward after the surgery. Mike and Yvonne have served their communities for over 40 yrs combined, but as a teacher and police officer with 4 teenagers, it's not hard to understand that there is not a lot of extra money in their home. They have spent their entire adult lives giving to their communities, can you give a little back to help support them in their time of need?
