On that day, 1000s of men and women risked their lives to help save the 1000s of Americans who were trapped in the towers. Many of those souls were lost. While there are several great organizations who support our first responders and our Veterans, there are few that do it better with more pride and professionalism than The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T).

Support Tunnel to Towers on the 25th Anniversary of Sept 11

<div>I started swimming when I was around 3 years old. I joined my first summer league team at 5. And began swimming year-round with club teams by the time I was 8.
</div>

<div>My Dad never missed a swim meet my entire career.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Even as I got faster and we traveled farther. Even when I went to college out of state and competed every weekend from fall through spring. Even when I made Nationals - my parents packed up my little brothers and drove 20 hours to watch me swim two races that lasted a total of 1 minute 15 sections - combined - two years in a row.
</div>

</div>
<div>This persisted even into adulthood, with him (thankfully) flying out to see my brothers and I swim in the Catalina sprint triathlon, and later when we also 'Escaped' from Alcatraz.
</div>

<div>He was always there. Until one day, he couldn't be.
</div>

</div>
<div>Nearly 15 years ago, my Dad lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer that attacks the bone marrow. He passed away just nine months after his diagnosis.

<div>He was my best friend.
</div>

<div>For some reason, over the past year, I've found it nearly impossible to get myself back into the water. I'll go to the gym with my suit on...and walk. Or lift weights. Or stretch. I'll do almost anything else. But swimming - the sport that was such a huge part of our lives - has been the one thing I can't seem to do.

<div>So I'm trying something different.

<div>This August, I'm committing to swimming 5 miles to raise money for the American Cancer Society in support of cancer research and in honor or my Dad.

<div>I know he would be incredibly happy to see me do this. And with every lap, I'll be thinking about all the years I looked up into the stands and saw him and my Mom cheering me on.

I'm Swimming 5 Miles in August to support Cancer Research

<div>I am running 60 miles in honor of my mum’s 60th birthday. A tradition I have held on her birthday since she passed. And this year, I am raising $6,000 for Stand Up To Cancer, a nonprofit dedicated to a future where cancer is no longer a threat, as I train in Colorado for the hardest athletic feat I’ve attempted in my life.

<div>There is never a good time to lose your mum. At 23, although society considers you an adult you still need love and guidance. You have the freedom and means to choose your own path and on the back of losing the most important person in my life, for the first and only time in my life there were only two options.
</div>

<div>I was angry, I was upset, I was lost.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My mum, Amanda, was the one least deserving in our family. By age (53), lifestyle and what she blessed others around her with. A nurse by profession, a mother by nature and a servant to those she loved and strangers alike. She was happiest when providing for others, she was the centre of our family and our home. She didn't smoke, rarely drank and was active in the garden, going on walks and everything that is needed to manage the family affairs.

</div>
<div>Losing her had my world shattered. The two roads were clear, one of self-destruction, which I would be afforded with acceptance from loved ones. The other was using the turmoil and pain for something more. I didn't know where the second path led or what it entailed, but my love and admiration for my mum meant I couldn't use her passing as an excuse to ruin my life.
</div>

</div>
<div>I started running, something as a semi-professional rugby player I hated, it was inextricably linked to punishment and there was no 'win' involved. I found myself at all hours of the day and night lacing up and getting outside, especially when I was upset which was most of the time. I would run with rushes of emotions coming to physical form in the paces I was moving at. I would cry, I would shout out at the world, I'd even close my eyes when vehicles were approaching from behind and wish they would take me out. Whatever was happening out there, it released some pain and I felt a lot more at peace when I would get home.

<div>This was what I kept doing. It wasn't like the appeal of the other path wasn't there, but the more I used my pain as physical power, the further away from the temptation I got.
</div>

</div>

</div>
<div>The catalyst in this story came the Christmas Day after my mum had passed in 2018. I wanted to avoid the 'celebration' by any means necessary but also not to raise any concerns that I was struggling. So I decided to run my first marathon distance around the towns we grew up in. I raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support, who mum had raised money for in the past and whom also supported her through her own fight. Loved ones came out and joined me at different point, by the time I was done we had raised almost £20,000. Through my own physical suffering, I had not just eased my mind, but I had raised funds to help people like my own family. I instantly looked for what was more than a marathon. 8 months later I ran 850 miles in 16 days, the length of the UK and raised over £30,000. Since then my life has been inextricantly linked to ultra running and raising money for charities as well as trying to show people dealing with loss or any struggle that there is a way to use those emotions for good.

<div>I can't do anything to get my mum back, but I can use her memory and show through my own physical feats that she was an incredibly strong and loving woman. She raised me to be the man I am today. What I can also do is continue to fight against cancer and raise as much vital funding as possible in the hope that some day soon no one else will have to go through the experience me and my family have. Cancer affects us all, whether we get it or someone we love does. I'm Standing Up to Cancer, I'm running for my mum and everyone fighting it.

Help Kenya A Single Mom Fight Homelessness ❤️

<div>My name is Angela Lipps. I'm a 50 year old grandmother from Elizabethton, Tennessee. I have three grown children and five grandchildren. I have never been to North Dakota or even any of the surrounding states. I've never visited Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, or anywhere else near North Dakota.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On July 14th, 2025 a team of U.S. Marshals showed up at my home while I was babysitting four young children. They arrested me at gunpoint and took me away. Until then I had never had a gun pointed at me. These poor children saw everything happen. It breaks my heart. They were so scared.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>What I later learned, after many days in jail is that police in Fargo, North Dakota had been investigating a bank fraud case. A woman used a fake military ID to steal tens of thousands of dollars from banks in Fargo. The cops ran surveillance footage through facial recognition software. That AI software said it was me. A detective looked at my Tennessee driver's license and my social media and agreed. Nobody called me. Nobody asked me a single question. They just got a warrant.

<div>I sat in a county jail in Tennessee for 108 days. They said I was fugitive from justice. I had no bail. No one interviewed me. I just sat and waited.
</div>

</div>
<div>On October 30th I was taken from the jail and flown to North Dakota. It was the first time I had ever been on an airplane. I was terrified. They put a restraint device around my waist and handcuffed me and walked me through the airport in front of everyone. Everyone was staring. I was terrified and exhausted and humiliated.
</div>

</div>
<div>I was given a lawyer in Fargo. The lawyer pulled my bank records and showed that I was in Tennessee the entire time. My bank records prove that I was at a gas station, ordering a pizza, and using Cash App at the very times they said I was 1,200 miles north in Fargo. I was taken by the U.S. Marshals on July 14th. It wasn't until December 19th that my lawyer and I finally sat down with a detective. It took five minutes for the whole thing to fall apart. Five minutes.

<div>On Christmas Eve, after more than five months in jail, the charges were dismissed.
</div>

</div>
<div>I was released into a North Dakota winter wearing summer clothes. I had no coat, no ride, no way home. Fargo police did nothing to help me. Local defense attorneys gave me money for a hotel room and food on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. A local nonprofit founder drove me to Chicago and from there I got back home to Tennessee.
</div>

<div>No one from the Fargo Police Department has apologized.
</div>

</div>
<div>I pleaded with the U.S. Marshals to get my dentures and take them to jail with me but they refused. For six months I had no dentures. Jail would not allow me to have them. You can see it in my mugshot. The one they put on the news. That photo was taken at the worst moment of my life and they published it for the world to see.

<div>While I was in jail I lost everything.
</div>

</div>
<div>My family put my personal belongings into storage but the bill couldn't be paid. Everything is gone. Everything. I lost my rental home in a mobile home park. I lost my Social Security income. I lost my health insurance. I lost my doctors. I lost my dog. I lost my car, a Chrysler Sebring convertible and everything inside of it. I lost brand new clothes and shoes that I had just bought. I lost tools, cables, a battery charger, a tire inflator. Everything.

<div>I missed Halloween with my grandkids. I missed my 50th birthday. I missed Thanksgiving. I was released on Christmas Eve but I was stranded in North Dakota with nothing so I missed that too.
</div>

<div>My neighbors watched me get arrested. People in my community assumed I was guilty. I was charged, so in their eyes that was that.
</div>

</div>
<div>I gained 65lbs from fluid retention and poor diet when I was in jail. I just got my health insurance back and have an appointment coming up with a doctor. I don't sleep at night. I'm up every hour, thinking and praying, thankful that I'm no longer locked up but terrified that it could happen again. I shake when I think about that day. I am not the same woman I was. I don't think I ever will be.

<div>I am now living with neighbors in the trailer park. I have no car, no money, and no way to start over on my own. I have always been an independent woman. I cannot start life again with nothing.

<div>Hello, I am Lilian and my husband Jorgy  . Today, we ask for your help. three weeks ago, my daughter Lucianna began to have some symptoms of pain in her feet and legs. At first, we thought it was some normal injury caused by sports or else. we took her to the pediatrician and he told us that it could be something muscular so we continued our normal routine. as the days went by, we realized that Lucianna was losing sensitivity in her left foot as well as in her leg, she felt an enormous weight so it was preventing her from walking, then the headaches started. She missed two weeks of school due to the pain she was having. Around those days, we started to notice one of her legs wasn't able to hold her weight. She wasn't able to walk anymore, so he took the to the hospital right away. At the hospital, the doctors proceeded to take do blood tests, MRI's to the BRAIN, SPINE, LUMBAR, CERVICAL AND THORACIC areas and , these tests diagnosed that Lucianna has an infection in the brain and spine, so they kept her hospitalized since Thursday, November 7th. The neurologist sent her for many more tests, since they don't have a 100% sure diagnosis, the one that comes closest to the symptoms is acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, but they have really given us many names of diseases that have us heart broken.

<div>Since Lucianna was admitted to the hospital she has had some very difficult nights, of pain, frustration, fear, this has been very hard for us since we never imagined being in this position and seeing our daughter suffer in this way, now we must wait two more weeks for the most important results to arrive, but in the meantime the neurologist began to give her medication for her muscles, since at times she has suffered from cramps and numbness in her legs, they are also giving her steroids in very high doses to reduce the inflammation she has in her brain and spine, stomach medications, and doses to reduce stress since she has had episodes of anxiety.

<div>Hola , soy Lilian soto y mi esposo Jorge Mario Roncancio , hoy recurrimos a esta ayuda , ya que hace tres semanas mi hija Lucianna comenzó a tener algunos síntomas de dolor en sus pies y sus piernas , al principio pensamos que era alguna lesión normal por algún deporte o algún golpe que se había ocasionado , la llevamos al pediatra y este nos dijo que podía ser algo muscular así que tanto mi hija como nosotros seguimos nuestra rutina normal , pero al pasar los días , nos dimos cuenta que Lucianna estaba perdiendo sensibilidad en su pie izquierdo así mismo en su pierna , sentía un peso enorme así que le estaba impidiendo caminar , luego los dolores de cabeza , para ese entonces mi niña ya llevaba casi dos semanas sin ir a la escuela , de un momento a otro ya notamos que torcía también su otro pie , se hacía imposible ya caminar así que decidimos llevarla al hospital , le hicieron muchos exámenes de sangre , MRI BRAIN y el MRI SPINE LUMBAR, SPINE CERVICAL y SPINE THORACIC , estos exámenes diagnósticaron que Lucianna tiene inflamaciónes en el cerebro y la columna , así que la dejaron hospitalizada desde el día jueves 7 de noviembre , el neurólogo le envió muchos más exámenes , ya que no tienen un diagnóstico 100% seguro , el que más se acerca a los síntomas es la encefalomielitis aguda diseminada, pero realmente nos han dado muchos nombres de enfermedades que emocionalmente nos han vuelto nada .
Desde que Lucianna fue internada en el hospital ha tenido unas noches muy difíciles , de dolor , de frustración, miedo , esto ha sido muy duro para nosotros ya que nunca nos imaginamos estar en esta posición y ver nuestra hija sufrir de esa manera , ahora debemos esperar dos semanas más para que lleguen los resultados más importantes , pero mientras tanto el neurólogo comenzó a darle medicamento para los músculos , ya que en algunos momentos a sufrido de calambres y entumecimiento en sus piernas , también le están dando esteroides en dosis muy altas para reducir la inflamación que tiene en el cerebro y la columna , medicamentos para el estómago , y dosis para reducir el estrés ya que ha tenido episodios de ansiedad .
en este momento debemos esperar algunos días más para ver como ella evoluciona con este primer tratamiento.
debido a esta situación mi esposo y yo no hemos podido ir trabajar 100%, nuestra niña no tiene un seguro médico asi que debemos asumir algunos gastos , cualquier contribución por pequeña que sea , será de gran ayuda para nosotros , lo agradecemos con el corazón .

<div>Hi! This is Rafa! I’m reaching out again asking for support. The Altadena Farmers’ Market has been providing free produce to the community for 17 months. Our voucher program is completing a year. And we just recently secured a new sponsor who will allow us to continue our free produce distributions until December. We’re also working in new projects to support our community’s long term recovery. However we’re out of money for payroll. Our staff, including myself were deeply affected by the fire. I’m a full time employee of the organization. I used to be the owner when the AFM was still a for profit. But I gave up on that so that as a nonprofit we could have a bigger impact in the community. We continue to apply for grants and funding, we have been successful getting funding for produce purchases to giveaway, but not much luck in getting funding for other costs like insurance, general operating expenses and specially payroll. Just in the  last few weeks we’ve applied for 9 grants. Large, small, state wide and hyper local grant opportunities, but we haven’t gotten any.  Specially when it comes to local grants, this constant “no” for an answer makes me feel like the work we do is invisible for those who have the funding and the tools to help us.

Emergency Relief for Venezuela Earthquake Victims

I'm Terry, Michael's dad, and my son is withering away right in front of me.  It pains me to know that instead of watching my son grow, learn and blossom into an independent young man, I will have to watch him regress, become wheelchair bound and slowly lose all functionality of his body and mind. <strong>We need your help to change his future. <br /></strong><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/39019500_1557118736291553_r.jpeg" alt="39019500_1557118736291553_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />Michael was born one week before Christmas (he was actually due to be born on December 25) an early Christmas gift that we had all anxiously been waiting for. He was perfect, 10 fingers, 10 toes and big blue eyes, what else could we ask for. We brought him home and started our new life as a family of 5.<br /> <br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/39019500_1557119253996461_r.jpeg" alt="39019500_1557119253996461_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />As the months went by we started to notice that Michael was missing some major milestones, in my gut I knew that there was something wrong but I just did not want to believe it.  After numerous doctors appointments, MRI's, blood work and endless conversation with medical professionals Michael was diagnosed with <strong>SPG50 an ultra rare neurodegenerative disease.</strong> <br /><br />As our neurologist explained what Michaels future looked like,  words like <strong>severe developmental delay,</strong> <strong>non verbal, spastic paraplegia</strong> and <strong>confined to a wheelchair by the age of 10</strong> painted a picture of a future that no parent wants for their child. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/39019500_1557117631138905_r.jpeg" alt="39019500_1557117631138905_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> <br /><strong>It's unbelievable</strong> that our happy, lively little boy will gradually regress and be lost to this terrible disease.  <strong>We won' t sit back and watch Michael be taken away from us. </strong>He deserves better and we need to <strong>help him reach his full potential.</strong><br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/39019500_1559017976917228_r.jpeg" alt="39019500_1559017976917228_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><span style="font-size:1.0625rem;">SPG50 is a progressive brain disorder that begins in early childhood, it is  caused by just one missing protein… but it’s an important one.  Because he doesn’t have this protein, as degeneration rapidly progresses Michael will lose the ability to use his feet, hands and slowly his </span>brain<span style="font-size:1.0625rem;"> will </span>depress<span style="font-size:1.0625rem;"> until there is nothing left. <div>We are Jordan and Cian Adams — two of three siblings who grew up in the small town of Redditch, Worcestershire, alongside our mum Geraldine, our dad Glenn, and our older sister Kennedy.

<div>We had a happy childhood. Our parents gave us a strong start in life, and our mum was the heart of everything. She lived for big occasions — birthdays, Christmas, family gatherings — and made every moment feel special. She was loving, generous, full of life, and incredibly social. Mum was also deeply proud of her Irish roots. Her own parents were from the county borderlands between Longford and Leitrim, and she would often slip into an Irish accent when telling stories or chatting with friends. She was the kind of person you couldn’t help but notice when she walked into a room — always smiling, always talking, always lifting others.

<div>So when her personality began to change, it was impossible not to notice.

<div>She became quieter. Less outgoing. Her mood dropped. Her memory began to fail. At first, we didn’t understand what was happening — but we knew something wasn’t right. Over time, those changes became more pronounced, and our dad began seeking medical help to find answers.
</div>

<div>What followed were months of uncertainty — repeated GP visits, consultant appointments, and several incorrect diagnoses, including depression, mental health issues, and even a silent stroke. Eventually, on 23rd June 2010, our mum was diagnosed with early-onset Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>That evening, our dad had to tell us that our mum was terminally ill and that her condition would deteriorate over the next 6–10 years. At the time, Kennedy was 17, Jordan was 15, and Cian was just 9 years old.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In the years that followed, we became carers for our mum as her condition progressed. That meant taking away her car keys when she could no longer safely drive but couldn’t remember why. Making sure she didn’t wander out of the house and become lost. Later, it meant helping to feed her, move her, and support her with the most basic daily tasks when she could no longer walk or speak.

<div>These are things no child should have to do for a parent — but when it’s someone you love, you do what you have to do.
</div>

</div>
<div>On 14th March 2016, our mum passed away peacefully at home, aged just 52.
</div>

<div><strong>The Irish Roots of Our Dementia</strong>

<div>Our connection to Ireland is not only emotional — it is medical.
</div>

<div>Our nan was one of six siblings, and heartbreakingly, four of those six developed familial Frontotemporal Dementia. Between those four siblings, there were 13 children — including our mum and our auntie. Of those 13 cousins, eight went on to develop and later pass away from FTD.
</div>

<div>For decades, dementia quietly and relentlessly affected our family. Generation after generation lived through repeated loss without answers, explanations, or understanding of why this kept happening.

<div>It was through medical research in Ireland that the cause was finally identified.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Researchers discovered that the dementia affecting our family is caused by a mutation in the MAPT gene — a genetic fault that leads to Frontotemporal Dementia. This mutation is inherited, meaning each child of a carrier has a 50% chance of inheriting it.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For the first time, our family had clarity.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Breaking the Cycle</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After our mum’s passing, our sister Kennedy felt a burning need to know whether she would inherit the same illness. Through family connections in Ireland, she arranged an appointment at the Dublin Neurological Institute with Professor Tim Lynch, who had researched familial FTD within our family.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Kennedy underwent research studies and genetic counselling before receiving her test result in 2018. She had inherited the normal copy of the gene from our dad — meaning she would not develop FTD.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For the first time in years, we had good news.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Kennedy was able to move forward, start a family, and live without the shadow we had all been carrying. Her bravery gave Jordan the courage to follow the same path. In September 2018, Jordan received his result: a carrier of the faulty MAPT gene, meaning he will develop the same form of dementia as our mum.
</div>

<div>Jordan describes that diagnosis as a 'licence to live'. Knowing what lies ahead has sharpened every decision since — including the decision to ensure this disease is not passed on further. Tragically, earlier this year, Jordan and his partner Agnès learned during a pregnancy that their child had also inherited the faulty gene, and they were unable to continue. Their journey to start a family continues.

<div>That means we both will develop Frontotemporal Dementia, likely becoming symptomatic in our early 40s and losing our lives within a decade of diagnosis.

<div>Several of our cousins have also chosen to undergo genetic testing — something previous generations were never able to do. These decisions are deeply personal and incredibly difficult, but they represent a collective determination to end decades of silent heartbreak in our family.

Easing Sue’s Burden: A Veteran’s Wife’s Story [Arkansas]

<div>Mabel's Fables Bookstore opened at 662 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto in September 1988. Many families, both local and from afar, have been supporting us for generations. Some people call us a cultural icon in our community. We are known for our amazing curated book selection, our booksellers' expertise, our Baby's First Library gift baskets, birthday book bundles, and our popular Book-of-the-Month subscription program.

<div>We are proud to say that we have already weathered a number of storms; the decreased traffic due to the LRT construction hit us in 2018, the purchase of our building by developers in 2019, and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic, when our doors were locked for eleven months. It is only because of the huge support from our customers and community, that we slowly have been able to recover.

<div>A move is not our preference but out of necessity, as our landlord has informed us of their intention to build a condominium in the next two years. Our building will be demolished. While our landlords say they will find us a temporary location during construction, we know that could be even harder to recover from.

<div>So, to be proactive, we have been shopping for a new Mabel's Fables home.
</div>

</div>
<div>And we found one! Just 422 steps south of our current location, 540 Mount Pleasant Road has wonderful possibilities. The store will be on one level. We will have extra room for events such as our baby and toddler classes, book launches, book clubs, school visits, presentations, and baby book showers. It even has the same north-west corner as we have at our Hillsdale location. Mabel’s Fables 2.0 will have the same feel, the same wonderful books, the same wonderful people and kids, and the same hard-working bookstore cat.

<div>But we will not be to make this vision a reality this without your support!

<div>Moving to a new location means a lot of additional expenses that are impossible for a small bookstore like us to weather alone which is why we are asking for your help.

<div>In all that time, I have never once seen Diana leave Candace's side. Not when they were raising their kids. Not when life got hard. And not now — not through this.

<div>On a busy Friday night, we ordered dinner from Domino’s, along with a Diet Coke. While we were waiting, we got a voicemail from our delivery driver, Dan, letting us know they were out of Diet Coke… but he’d gladly bring something else if we let him know what we wanted.

<div>We tried calling the store back, but he had already left for delivery. No big deal, we figured we’d just take whatever substitution came with the order.
</div>

<div>But when Dan arrived, he surprised us.

<div>He apologized again for the inconvenience and then told us… he had stopped at the store himself to pick up Diet Coke for us.

Local moms have offered to help pay for a new tricycle, so I created this GoFundMe to help out Jack.

<div>3. Inspire 1,000 men to take their first step toward mental well-being through accessing resources, joining programs, or reaching out for support.

<div><strong>HOW YOU CAN HELP</strong>

<div><strong>Financial Support:</strong> We aim to raise $15,000 to help offset some of the trip's costs. The money will go toward food, gear, &amp; lodging.

<div>Every dollar raised after that will be donated to Movember to help with men's mental health and suicide prevention.

<div>The goal is to raise $50,000 more for Movember ($65,000+ total).

<p><b>200 MILES TO FIGHT CANCER!!!</b>

<p>The American Cancer Society has started a fundraiser/movement for July, where they ask participants to walk 62 miles and raise funds to help fight for a world without cancer. This is a very meaningful cause for me as both of my parents had cancer and ultimately fought hard but succummbed to the dreadful disease. 
</p><br />
<p>While 62 miles is a great goal, those who know me, know that the bare minimum just won't do at all, so I've decided to place a 1 in front of that number and go for <b>162 miles</b> in July! ***Updated to 200 Miles*** 
</p>
<p>That means that I'll be running over 6.5 miles a day in this Florida heat!!! And while they suggest a fundraising goal of $250, I'll gladly put a 0 behind that and challenge my friends/family and whomever else to help reach an initial goal of $2,500 in the first week and $10,000 by the end of July - don't let me down! ****Updated to a goal of $12,500****
