Hi everyone! ♡
I’m the person behind The Poppins Purse, a little reselling adventure with a very big purpose.
Pursuing a career in veterinary medicine has always been one of my biggest dreams. It’s a path that requires years of dedication, hard work, and sacrifice. But behind that dream is a financial journey that has been much more difficult than I ever imagined.
My current student loan balance is approximately $490,000.
I know that’s an overwhelming number, and I wanted to share a little more about how I got here.
Throughout veterinary school, I made the decision to rely on student loans so that I wouldn’t place an additional financial burden on my family. I knew pursuing this career would be expensive, but I wanted to take responsibility for my education while doing what I could to support the people I love.
What I couldn’t have anticipated were the heartbreaking challenges my family would face along the way.
While I was in school, my dad became critically ill and spent three months in the hospital. During that time, he faced a pancreatic cancer scare, pancreatitis, and pneumonia. There were moments when we feared we might lose him.
He also had to be rushed to the emergency room repeatedly whenever he developed high fevers. My mom and I often traveled back and forth to the hospital in the very early morning and late at night. There were times when I would nap and study outside the hospital because only one of us was allowed to visit him at a time.
Watching someone you love fight for their life is difficult to put into words. Those months brought tremendous emotional stress, uncertainty, exhaustion, and financial strain to my family, all while I was trying to continue my education.
My student loans helped me support myself and, during that difficult period, provided some financial flexibility to help my family when it was needed.
Then, just as life seemed to be moving forward, my older sister was diagnosed with breast cancer at 29 years old, only one year after my nephew was born.
Once again, my family found itself navigating the fear, uncertainty, and emotional and financial challenges that come with a serious illness.
Through it all, I continued working toward my dream of veterinary medicine while trying my best not to add to the burdens my family was already carrying.
I don’t regret pursuing my dream, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to do so, but the financial weight of getting here has been incredibly difficult to carry.
Seeing my student loan balance reach approximately $490,000 is daunting. I know there isn’t a quick or easy solution, but I’m determined to start taking meaningful steps toward a more financially stable future.
That’s where The Poppins Purse comes in!
I’ve decided to start with what I already have: a closet full of clothes, shoes, accessories, and other belongings that deserve a second home.
What began as a simple closet cleanout has become something much more meaningful to me. It’s an opportunity to earn extra money, and document my journey toward paying down my student debt.
Through my social media pages, I’ll be sharing my finds, sales, and financial milestones along the way.
My fundraising goal is $490,000—the current approximate balance of my student loans, not including the future interest I will accrue.
This is a large goal, and I know it may take a long time to reach. I’m choosing to set it at this amount because I want to be transparent about the full financial burden I’m working to overcome. Every contribution, no matter the size, would help me take a step toward reducing this debt.
Every dollar received through this fundraiser, after GoFundMe’s transaction fees, will go directly toward payments on my student loans. Donations will not be used to purchase inventory, fund my resale business, or cover personal expenses.
I’m choosing to keep my identity private while sharing this journey, but I want you to know that there is a real person, a real family, and a very real financial struggle behind this little page.
Sharing these parts of my life isn’t easy, but I hope it helps explain why this journey means so much to me.
If you’re in a position to contribute, no matter how small, I would be incredibly grateful. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this fundraiser, following my journey, or supporting my resale shop would mean just as much.
I’ll be sharing updates as I work toward my financial goals so that those who choose to support me can follow along and see the progress their kindness helps make possible.
I know I have a long road ahead, but I’m hopeful that with patience, determination, and a little kindness along the way, I can begin making a difference in a debt that sometimes feels impossible to overcome.
One closet. One sale. One step closer. ♡
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for your compassion, and for being part of The Poppins Purse.
With heartfelt gratitude,
